I got a great deal on a set of Fender F Locking tuners today. 25 min and I was ready to play. Installed on my MIM white Standard Stratocaster. If I like how they perform I'll be buying two mor sets.

I'd like to have Schaller Fender locking tuners but they are getting hard to find. My guitar store sold me the Fender F locking tuners for Ebay price so I decided to give them a try. I also read that thread you mention and this too was a reason for trying the F locking tuners. I still would like the Fender Schaller locking tuners but the F tuners are working fine so far.

I put the Fender F locking tuners on both of my Strats and on a Tele of mine. They really do the job that they are supposed to.

Anyone know how well the locking Fender tuners replace the vintage replica tuners?

The really don't - they are designed to be drop-in replacements for the modern Fender tuners. To use them on a neck already drilled for vintage tuners you would have to ream out the holes for the post and drill new "guide holes" on the back of the neck. Plus removing the vintage tuners will leave visible unused holes on the back of the headstock.

That being said (and I should have posted this on your other thread) there are vintage-style locking tuners made by Gotoh that are direct replacements for the vintage tuners. They work differently - they are the "self-locking" type, not the "wheel on the back" type - but they do hold the tune pretty well based on having them on a small builder S-type I had about 10 years ago.

..which doesn't affect the playability of the guitar.

Did those locking Klusons also exist with staggered posts?

I don't believe Gotoh made them with staggered posts like the Schallers, Fender/Ping, or Sperzels have but I think they were making them with "adjustable height" posts for a while. That being said someone who was using Gotoh tuners on their guitars (it was either Tom Anderson, John Suhr, or Don Grosh) said that they didn't think they were as stable as the fixed-height post tuners. Anderson used to use the modern style locking Gotohs, Don Grosh uses the vintage style locking Gotohs, and John Suhr uses the non-locking vintage style Gotohs (he uses the Schaller-style locking tuners).
