Hope one of you fine individuals can shed some light.

Did Fender make a 1957 reissue in the color Shoreline Gold?
I went through all of my material and came up empty. But I think that they did in like 1997-1998. I saw one on G Base that sold, but only pic was a standard shot.

Does this neck pocket look American?
J 1948? looks strange. I can almost make out ’97 if you follow where the 4 is in 1948 down a little. It has a 6 point bridge. I do not think it is Mexican or Japanese. But those are the only markings.

The pup cavity looks different as well. I have never seen “bare wood” before.

It is an amazing color strat. Thanks for all of your input!

If it is a '57 AVRI, there should be a serial number stamped on the neck plate. Contact Fender with that serial number for the details.

+1

The number should be formatted as "VXXXXXX"

It looks like a re-fined body IMHO. It looks like that pickup cavity had a finish of sunburst that was sprayed over. I looked through every piece of documentation I have along with all the Fender Frontlines, and Shoreline Gold is never mentioned as a color for the 57 Reissue. Could be a Custom order? Another thing that makes me think re-fined is the mostly lack of color on the flat part of the neck pocket except right along the edge a bit looks like a bit of black was sanded away, but in your pic it looks like there is black in back part of the pocket again it might have been sunburst.

Certainly let us know what you find out.

Thanks a lot everyone. I GREATLY appreciate it. I have reservations about this body.

Rob, what do you think, does it look legit? Was the Shoreline a Sunburst spray over?
The neck pocket looks very fishy to me. There are indentations of a V serial number on the back where the neck plate was, and I do have A neck plate. I do not know if it is THE neck plate that the guitar was born with.

I have an 2007 57 reissue and the tail seems thinner on my 07 than on the Shoreline.
I also have a Mexican Anniversary Edition and it is night and day compared to that body.
I also have a Hot Rod and it is similar, but again, the tail section seems thinner.

Is there a way to tell by the neck plate what the specifics were for that serial #?

Thanks again fellow players! Much appreciated!

Hi Rubicon,
Honestly, its hard for me to be certain by the pics....as I'm of the "never say never" school of Fender and that allows for the fact that a great deal of the work is still done by human hands, so there will be variance, especially concerning signatures, stamps etc.

If the serial number is trackable (comes up in our database), then it can at least tell you what that serial number "should" be and some details about when it was manufactured etc.
So feel free to shoot me off a serial number on a PM and I'll give it a look and see if i can find anything.

Oh! .and is it possible that shoreline was painted over a sunburst?-----please see above.

All the best,
rob

From what I have read this color was "optional"
So I am lead to believe it was a special order piece, much like a car?
I am guessing here, so please bear with me. I can not find very much info at all on the 57 Shoreline reissue. I bought the body because I love the color and had a spare neck. But now it seems like I have unearthed a mystery.

There was one on Gbase. But I have not been able to find much else. If it was refinished, whoever did it, knew what they were doing. Not some Krylon job. It looks factory done.
And the body is not mint by any stretch of the imagination. There is belt rash and a few dings here and there. But basically in good shape for a body of this age. It is my hope that more can be found from the serial number or perhaps a fellow owner reads this post and shares some pics. Personally I have never seen a Shoreline Gold 57 reissue.

Thanks again everyone!

Well if Rob says it was an optional color, then you can take that to the bank...and if so, it could be a factory refin from Sunburst.

I went back and double checked my books and Fender Frontlines, just to make sure I hadn't missed it and no mention of Shoreline Gold...be sure to let us know if you find anything else out about it. Certainly a nice different 57 Reissue!

I checked my archives as well -- only Aztec Gold was mentioned. Could the guitar have been an FSR......?

haven't looked through any of our Lit, but putting
Quote:
(844) Shoreline Gold, added 1997

together with
Quote:
INTRODUCED: 1982
DISCONTINUED: 7/1998

looks like it was around for a year anyways.

cheers,
rob

I love the color, and the fact that it is somewhat rare, makes it that much more special.
I am putting the finishing touches on it I will post some pics!!
