I always wanted to buy a American Standard Stratocaster with Candy Apple Red color. And now the time has come!

But when I entered the Fender site to check the 2013 models, I found the "Mystic Red" color.

I was surprised to see that other models such as the Mexican has CAR color available.

I searched here in the forum about the difference between the "Mystic Red" and CAR, many spoke these colors are similar.

Then I found this video, which shows a telecaster with the Red Mystic color:

Mytic Red is very different from CAR. Mystic Red looks more like wine, metallic and darker. And the video is the real proof, without relying on photos with different lighting.

So, Fender, please, I'm asking you: Bring back the CAR color to American Standards!

The most traditional guitar with a traditional red color!

Fender did a CAR USA Std in the form of a special edition run a couple of years ago. It was featured with a thinskin lacquer finish and an aged white pearloid pickguard.

Discontinued and no longer made.

I'd like to drop some EMGs on it and install a shortened whammy!

I really do not understand why Fender produces these alternate versions of red, and remove the CAR model.

Everyone wants the guitar of your dreams, in its most traditional form, such as are used by great artists like David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler.

I do not think it is possible that a Mystic Red model selling more than the CAR.

Colours come and go. That's just the way it is and always has been. Get 'em while they're hot!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Or refuse to be a slave to the display rack at GC and build your own (like many of us do).

chromeface, These new "hot" colors models do not even come close to the beauty of your guitar. Amazing guitar.

Retroverbial, I'm thinking in wait for the 2014 models or buy used. In my opinion, along with Black, White and Sunburst, Candy Apple Red should always be color option for American Standards.

There's no predicting what fate will hold for 2014 but quality used instruments remain an option.

My CAR Strat is a custom-assembled '63 clone.

They put out this year a CAR classic 50's laquer finish. For the money($899 retail) these are fine guitars, and more true to vintage specs than the modern Am. Std. With a few simple upgrades, you will have the color you want, vintage specs, and IMHO a way better axe than a stock Am. Std.

Yes, as I said there are other models that comes with CAR color (eg the mexicans). But I want to buy a new guitar, USA model, and the American Standard is a guitar that I can buy with my budget.

There are other models the comes with CAR, but the American Standard does not have this color option, so traditional red. The problem is that the picture of the model "Mystic Red" which is on the Fender site may confuse many people. And the video I posted you can see that is very different from CAR.

I already knew those pictures were from the Fender site and Gilmour. But I thought you had bought this one, and then install the pickups and whammy. Still a amazing guitar :)

Candy Apple Red is a colour often associated with David Gilmour in mind, though Eric Clapton used a Roland/Greco GR505 synth guitar finished in that colour in the mid-1980s.

The 57 HR is American not Mexican. The thing is the US standard strat is not a traditional strat it is a modern stratocaster with modern specs. SO it makes absolute sense that it would be offered in newer, more modern colors. If you want traditional colors on an USA strat they are readily offered in the traditional US strats ( Reissues). With that being said Fender changes the colors out on the American Standard/Deluxe line every few years and older colors are thrown into the mix. For example they just introduced a Deluxe strat in Burgundy Mist Metallic. American Standards in recent years were offered in Daphne Blue, Surf Green, and Fiesta Red. You'll just have to be patient as they do offer those colors either as standard production models or FSRs every now and then.

As well, Fender often rotates the vintage custom-color selections available on the re-issues too (both MIM and MIA). Certain finishes remain constant (black, Oly White, FRED, LPB, etc) but periodically FMIC will offer Blue Ice Metallic, Inca Silver, Ocean Turquoise Metallic, etc, on a limited basis. CAR seems to fall into that latter category.
