Are you thinking about mixing fat 50s and 57/62 pickups?

The 57/62s in a set of three are quite nice.

The Trower strat has a combo set you might check out.

Unless things have changed, the '57/'62 set does not have a RWRP middle pup, so you might want to be sure to put one of the Fat '50s in the middle if you want noise-cancelling in the 2 and 4 positions. Does anyone know if the polarity is the same for each set? Otherwise, they should mix well.

Apparently the current 57/62 sets now feature a RWRP middle pickup. My older sets do not (purchased prior to 2006).

+1 My set is a year old and middle is RWRP. I have both sets 57/62 and fat 50s, and like them equally. What is the purpose of mixing up the sets? Big expense to buy both sets just to mix up and make one set.
I think the fat 50's on their own will meet the op's needs.

I used to regard these two sets with equal measure but now I find I prefer the additional "raw beef" provided by the Fat 50's.

Beware of the quality control on the Fat Fifties pickups. I bought a set of these a couple of weeks ago and they were way out of spec.

Should be...neck 6.0k...middle 6.3k...bridge...6.2k

Mine were...neck 6.67k...middle 6.3k...bridge 6.47k

I didn't mind the bridge pickup being a little higher but the neck at 6.67k had way too much bass compared to the other two.

I am not the first person to report this finding.

Spec is + or - 10%, so I would say your right there.

Other than the stickers and cloth wire. What's the difference if you take the Standard American pickups, and replace the bridge pickup with a neck pickup from another set of American pickups?

It would seem as if Fender is just doing the same thing.

The difference is that Fender isn't consistent with respect to its pickup polarities.

Some rwrp sets are SNS while others are NSN, so you are not guaranteed a rwrp set when you start mixing things.

It does make sense to add a Fat 50s bridge to a 57/62 set, but will it work polarity wise?

Its my understanding that the 57/62s fitted to the 62 Hot Rod strats are indeed RW/RP.
But all after market 57/62s of the shelf are not. I may be wrong but all the ones advertised I seen are not. If that's not the case and they are available with RW/RP, where are these available? I ask id like another set as I think there one of Fenders best pick ups.

I think so. My '62 HR came with a RWRP middle, but the pups are referred to as "American Vintage" and "RWRP American Vintage". They sound just like the '57/'62 set IIRC. I thought that they quit making the '57/'62, and switched to the American Vintage series, each are year specific, but they could be the same pups for all I know.

The newer versions of the RIs, the '59 AVRI for example, lists "American Vintage '59" pups.

I can't speak for the American Vintage 59 pick ups.
But as far as I'm aware the 57/62 s are indentical to the American Vintage pickups.

As Arjay previously said there were changes around 2006. But I'm pretty sure the changes weren't for RW/RP for of the shelf sets.
