O.K I just installed a 69 Custom shop pickup in the neck position of my 1995 Standard Strat and I have to say it has a lot of high end,I am a big fan of the neck position tone and I'm used to the Stock pickup that was removed and my other strat has a YJM dimarzio in the neck position and they have that low end creamy jazzy tone.Is the 69 pickup supposed to have that much high end sparkle and clarity??I also know they are low output but I just want to make sure it was installed correctly as my friend did it and just copied the wires from the pickup that was removed. If this is the tone, it might take some getting used to, It is a big change but I do want that early Strat tone ala Hendrix.

It's a hallmark of this particular set.

You could try lowering the treble side of the pup, and/or raising the bass side. Find a good balance, not too close as to affect the string vibration, not too far away as to lose too much volume.

Two low-cost mods are also worth mentioning.

You could add a base plate to the bridge pickup which may take some of the edge off of the highs. As well, wiring the bridge pickup to your lower tone control will let you roll off highs if/when desired.

This is for the neck pickup only, but I have to say I'm getting a great sound messing around with an overdrive pedal and combining some of the gain on the amp with it.These pickups need to be pushed a little and I'm not sure if I 100% like them totally clean,But a little gain brings out the tone more for me and its nice to hear that brassy string sound still with a lot of gain.
