I have a Squire Stagemaster with a HSH configuration with a Floyd Rose. I got some "vintage" hand wound PAF's to replace the factory HB's. The problem is, the new HB's have a braided ground and only 1 hot while the org. HB's have a ground and 2 hot's. Can someone help with a diagram that will help a dazed and confused newby? Thanks

The only things I can think of that are remotely like that are the Japanese PAF clones that came from the Matsumoko factory. They were on the Hondo guitars, the coil tap was odd in that it went to a stacked tone pot, much like the TBX. 0-5 was regular tone control and 5-10 gradually cut the coil out of the circuit.
One red, one white, one green and maybe a braid?
If so you need to leave the red off, tape the wire up and leave it disconnected. Having it in circuit splits the coils. Green is ground.

The PAF HB's are from a builder from Spain. These have the same tones as those found on 50's and 60's era guitars like the Les Paul and such. These simply have the "old school" metal braid housing a single conductor. The issue is how to keep the 5 way switching as before, utilizing the 2 conductor option found on the PAF replacement HB's.
The factory HB's have 3 conductor configuration that allows for each HB to be placed on the 5 way switch on the 1 and 7 pin and the 2 and 8 pin; while the single coil is placed on the 3 pin.
Hope this is not confusing because it is to me...

To accomplish what you are describing, each humbucker would have to have an additional lead wire added to the linking wire which joins the two coils in series. If you have never done this before, don't try it.

On a related note, your OEM single coil MAY be out of phase with the HBs.

Got it. Spent some time understanding the 5 way switch and so far things seem to be working. The single coil being out of phase is true though. Thanks man
