Greetings Fender-folk. I have an interesting question for the forum members. I recently purchased what ended up to be a 2011 American Standard Stratocaster (I purchased from an eBay listing that claimed it was a 2012.. my ignorance for not checking serial # until after I owned it... :  .... although I WAS bummed to discover that I do not have the Fat 50 pups)

When I reached out to Fender Consumer Relations last week with my serial #, they responded with the following:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Consumer Relations.
This is an American Standard produced in February, 2011. This was completed before March, 2012 when this guitar model had the pickups changed to the Custom Shop Fat '50's.

Material 011-0400-747
Serial Number US11026187
Description AM STANDARD STRAT RW SSB
Production 02/2011

Model Name: American Standard Stratocaster®
Model Number: 011-0400-(Color #) and 011-0402-(Color #)
Series: American Standard Series
Body: Alder on:
(700) 3-Color Sunburst,
(705) Olympic White,
(706) Black,
(712) Candy Cola,
(755) Blizzard Pearl,
(769) Charcoal Frost Metallic,
Ash on:
(747)** Sienna Sunburst, **add $100.00 for Special Wood Requirements,
Neck: Maple, Modern "C" Shape,
(Gloss Headstock Face with Satin Urethane Finish on Back of Neck)
Fingerboard: Rosewood (P/N 011-0400) or Maple (P/N 011-0402), 9.5" Radius (241 mm)
Frets: 22 Medium Jumbo Frets
Scale Length: 25.5" (648 mm)
Width @ Nut: 1.685" (42.8 mm)

Here is my quandary... my Strat is NOT a Sienna Sunburst (as the Fender data and my photos obviously show), but Olympic White. There are several bits of evidence that have me wondering.... Was my Strat intended to be an Ash SSB and was then resprayed to Oly before leaving Corona? What I REALLY want to know is this; Is my 2011 Olympic White made from Ash (as the 2011 SSB models are) or is it made of Alder. I really don't care which one it is as the guitar plays like a dream. Im just curious in nature and would like to know the whole story of how my new Strat came to be :D

Here are some pics to help....

(why the black under the apparently removed barcode stickers?....)

(neck date matches the Fender records...)

(NON-Fat 50 pickups.. Grrrr..... )

Anyone have any guesses? Do you think my Oly Strat started life off as some other color? Does this look like an Ash or Alder body? Inquiring minds (me) want to know! LOL

It's alder and the black is the shielding paint

That was my latest theory as well since taking the guitar apart last night for photos. I was just a little confused due to the fact that they "lookup" from Fender's system showed it to be an SSB model, which would have meant that it was made of Ash.

Thanks for the quick response!

I'd say that Fender's records are correct: that neck left the factory on an ash ssb body. Sometime before you bought it, it ended up on that body.

You've already pointed out that the seller was less than truthful about the guitar ...

Possibly, considering the scruples of some of today's eBayer's ..... However it WAS listed as a guitar that was being resold from an estate sale (for what THAT is worth). I failed to do my due diligence.. Shame on me. It's still a great guitar that I am happy to have.

Any way to know for sure what date /type / etc the Oly White body is? It looks to have authentic Fender markings on the neck pocket. The Barcode in the neck pickup cavity lists a valid 2011 American Standard Strat body part # (0056229-605) according to this Fender Diagram:

It's also possible that someone had put a rosewood neck from a siennaburst Strat into an olympic white body.

One explanation is the previous owner was apparently not happy with the rosewood neck and preferred having his siennaburst Strat with a maple fingerboard.

Not only possible, but that's exactly what happened, it hasn't been repainted, and it could have even come from Fender exactly as it is. As already pointed out, the black is shielding paint. Look at the sticker in the pup cavity of the body, it indicates an American Standard, with Olympic White as the color.

It appears that the previous owner swapped the stock parchment plastics (pickup covers included) for a brand new set of black plastic parts to compliment the olympic white body/rosewood neck combo.

IMO the guy is decidedly a huge Blackmore/Deep Purple fan....
