Let me start by saying I did not need another guitar.

(Waits patiently for the laughter do die down…)

I did not need one…but I scan Craigslist frequently enough to manage my GAS and to stay current with the market…just in case something interesting comes by. Like this one.

2007 Fender Sunburst Stratocaster – Barely Used

How can a 2007 be “Barely Used”? And is it really? The pictures said, “Probably”, with no obvious signs of fakery. The serial number said MIM 2007, so that checks out. And, the seller is less than a mile from my house. This needed to be seen. I went to the bank just in case...

The short version of the story goes like this: Owner is going off to college, hasn’t really played the Strat in years, favoring a few acoustics instead.…it was a gift from Dad. She’s happy to give it a new home in exchange for the cash…I’m happy be involved in the deal.

Not surprisingly, the pickups are a bit hotter than my ’75, but the tone is good at all volumes and the controls all do what they should. The staggered pickups seem to be at factory–nominal heights.

The body is a nice piece of Alder (6.5 lbs) with a pleasant grain showing through the tri-burst finish. The tuners turn nicely and the neck fits well in the pocket. No fret wear. The neck has a nice contour and the frets are finished nicely against the rosewood without any rough spots. No dust or corrosion on the bent-steel saddles. No scratches anywhere on the body or neck. The pickguard still has a layer of plastic. The trem cover has a sticker to remind you to replace these Fender Super Bullets with the same when you change strings. These must be the original strings.

This guitar is minty fresh! I don’t think it was ever, really played…

Case Candy? Was anyone else thinking about Case Candy? I reach into the pocket…and I find it all!

Original Store Inventory Tag: MSRP $599.99, arrived in stock 04/08/08, P/N 013-4600-332
Original Factory Inspection Tag w/ matching serial number and initials
SEALED Plastic Bag: Tools, Warranty Card, Owner’s Guide, Bumper Stickers, whatever…it is still sealed.

So, I’m feeling pretty good by now. A great looking guitar in showroom condition at a very reasonable price…in my neighborhood. Pictures are now revealed and I’m going to put on a new set of strings and stay up way too late tonight! (After I update my signature listing :D )

Holy guacamole! How come I never see stuff like that on CL around here?

And only a mile from home?

Schweet!

OK...I finally stopped laughing about not needing another guitar...nice find, and CL can be a positive experience, if you have the right expectations!

ENJOY!

Ah, yes...Craigslist. I learned from the best...my wife. She routinely scans the listings looking for furniture we don't need...and when she sees something that is attractive and a good value, she surges into action.

I only followed her lead...I just can't make it a recurring thing...at least for another year or so...

Cheers.

Nice Snatch! I had a similar experience. Saw a local Guitar Center had a used MIM Strat for $250... Turns out it was a Classic Players 60's Strat that had never been played... Sold it a few months later for $500 and bought a used American Standard for $50 more...
