That's not a serial -- it's a number issued by the U.S. Patent Office.

Jenglishman...those are not serial numbers those are actually Patent Numbers and it is a set of two different ones :

#2,741,146 and #3,143,028 These two first appeared together in Jan of 1966 up to mid 1968 so they would only appear on the "Big Headstock" Strats.

If you do a search the first number is for the tremolo and the second is for the adjustable truss rod in the neck.

HTH.

On the headstock. There were no serial numbers on the neck plate. Body was black with black pickguard. Big headstock. Frets had wear that would be age appropriate, but I haven't checked the neck stamp or pickups

From what I can tell from looking at other relative strats online is that the decal is slightly above where the others tend to be and there are two string trees instead of one. Also the neck had a line on the backside, however I've seen 69 strats with that too.

Also there's no sign of a cij/mij/mim serial on the neck where it meets the body

Some more pics of the whole guitar, a good shot of the neck plate, the bridge, tremolo from the back side without the cover, etc, from some different angles would help if you are wanting us to help nail down exactly when it was made and where.

really need to see more pictures, whole guitar, neck plate as suggested above. A shot of the internals may help too. there may be info in the neck pocket, or the neck itself, which would require you to take the neck off and look for dates or markings.

The neck plate has nothing on it, as well as the neck itself. I'll upload a photo of the bridge and body in a few minutes

That looks to be a Fullerton-made late '70s Strat.
