I've noticed that most stores sell their guitars "off the wall" as brand new at full price. In my opinion these guitars should be discounted as they are demos and may have been played by hundreds of people. Any thoughts on that? :x

That's where your ability to "wheel and deal" comes into the limelight.

I say used, they will probably say floor model. Either way Arjay is right...just use it as a reason to haggle. If they don't want to work a deal (would really surprise me, as they have so much inventory) move on.

When I go to Guitar Center for a new guitar, I always make it a point to ask for one from the back room that is still in the box. This way I know it hasn't been touched by anyone.

I agree that that these guitars have been used, but they are considered "new" because they are being sold by a dealer for the first time.

Playing guitars strait out of the box has not been set up yet.

I got a great deal on my NOS MIA Fender Stratocaster HSS, circa 2011, bouught June 2013. I also got a great deal on my 2011 NEW MIA Stratocaster ash body bought in 2011. The sales men will work with you. Give the salesmen a price you would like to pay and go from there. I'm looking at a 2006 closet classic 1966 Strat now. I'm still haggling a price. 8) When your haggling the price mention that the NEW Strats have Fat 50's custom shop pickups. Works like a charm.

Point out every flaw or ding, or other shop wear... They'll bring the price down or lose their business. They don't want old inventory hanging on the wall. I talked down a Gibson Les Paul Custom from the original price of $3200 to $2200 for it... Still didn't buy it, but at least I knew I could talk them down...
