Hi Guys and Girls

I am from South Africa and inherited a Fender Stratocaster from my dad. Serial number L06563 so i believe it is a 1963 model? It is a kind of metalic red colour. It got a few bumps and scratches but overall in good condition for its age.
Is this something special? Can anybody give me more info and is it worth something?
Thanks
Vic

Where are you getting your serial number from? From the neck itself or from the neckplate?

The reason I ask this question is because it isn't difficult to fake a vintage neckplate. I'm not saying your Strat is a fake, but this sort of thing isn't all that uncommon. If the rest of your Strat fits the proper description of a '63 Strat your confidence should be pretty high, but just be careful with this.

Often, it is a better idea to take the neck off and get the dates/numbers that are otherwise hidden in the neckpocket area.

Your guitar was made at the
Fullerton Plant (Fender - Pre CBS Era), USA
in the Year(s): 1963

An original '63 Strat should be worth something.

Has that Strat got a maple or rosewood fingerboard? If the former, why then I'll get on the phone and book myself into the Cape Grace Hotel and you can bring it over there to show me and we'll talk turkey.

Last time we visited South Africa my wife aquired seven suitcases full of shopping (true!). Next time round it ought to be my turn to buy some goodies, dontchathink? What could be better than a holiday in SA with a classic Strat thrown in?

I'm probably dreaming out loud. You should guard that Strat with your life. Hand it down the generations...

Post some pics, why don't you?

Indeed! Listen, let me offer you 100 dollars US for that guitar...

Fella: put that instrument somewhere safe and don't open the front door. The hawks are descending!

Removing the neck is easy, but don't mess with it if you don't know what you are doing. Where in South Africa are you? Is there a good shop you can go to for advice? Don't sell to them, though!

Seriously. You may have something very nice there. Post some pictures: there's people on this forum that can help you establish a real value for it, so's you can make sensible choices.

Keep posting! Lot's of people out here very interested in what you have to show!

And respect to your dad. He's done you proud.

Here...

Go to the link I'm putting below. This should give you enough details about a '63 Strat to nail down what you have...

One of the great pics you'll find there...
