I can remember as a young teenager seeing those Yngwie "rock star" photos in Guitar for the practicing musician, and thinking wow!!! "What an awesome guitar!!! He looks like a rock god!!!"
And likewise , the videos of Hendrix at Woodstock, Eric Johnson and SRV on Austin City Limits, just making me want a strat even more....
So, on Jeff Beck's birthday I ask you all,
Who in the public eye, do you think has been the biggest influence to unsuspecting future Stratocaster fanatics ??? And who actually influenced your love of Fender Strats???
There are many great answers and should yield some great stories i imagine..... :D

I think its more to do with the instrument that the strat itself is that had more to do with getting me into playing them. The countless great strat players of age are all simply evidence of its capabilty to bring out ones own playing style and abilities.

No doubt Tornado. It's a remarkable instrument that has stood the test of time and inspired an army of amazing guitarists. I dont think Leo could have even imagined all the sounds that would come from his baby or even the sounds yet to be.
Even the design looked "space-age" to the world when it was put in the public eye by 50s players like Buddy Holly ........

When I saw Hendrix live, that did it for me.

Hendrix always got my attention with his whammy bar/feedback assaults! Robin Trower also did it for me.

Of those still alive - Jeff Beck. He pulls out all the stops and shows what a Stratocaster can do like no other guitar made. Lets see a LP player do what Jeff does. The LP has two tones Mud and Metal.

Got to be Eric Clapton playing "Brownie" when I saw my first concert...Derek & the Dominos! What tone he had with that bad boy! Who can hear that first lick on Layla and not think of EC and Brownie's Strat Tone??!!
