Is it just me or after reading several "Is my Strat real" threads, a good rule of thumb would be:
If you have to ask if the guitar is real or fake, it is probably fake.

Probably 75% of the time, they're as phony as a seven-dollar bill.

But if asking this oft-posted question saves some hapless shmuck from a cruel fate, offering an informed opinion is but a minor inconvenience to those of us familiar with the instrument.

Better to ask and get an well informed opinion then get ripped off. There's a lot of fakes out there and some are pretty good

For a guitar thats easy to part out- it sometimes takes an experienced set of eyes to determine whether this has happened or not. Given the fact that Fender are very desirable, doesnt help either. I enjoy those threads to tell the truth. You always learn something :)

How does this one look? Guy claims it's an American.
Fender logo in pic looks really yellow to me- almost highlighted?

Thank you Paris and Toronado! Looks like at Guitar Center, these used Highway 1s go or about what he's asking - $500. That about right? Trying to figure out if I should bother trying to get that one, a new plus-top MIM, or maybe a cheaper Squier. I'm a new player (at the back end of my 30s no less!)

$500 is not a bad price. I own one of these guitars and they are wonderful. Definately worth the money.

Yea I didn't mean to say not ask. On the contrary, this is a great place to get hard information. What I meant was, if you are buying a guitar and you feel you need to ask about it's authenticity, stop, put your money back in your pocket and wait till you get comfortable with the the transaction.

What I have seen here also are a number of posts where the guitar seems to have already been purchased and the question is "Hey is MY guitar real or fake". I feel that most times this is too late to start asking questions, because you run a real chance of feeling bad about the purchase.

+ a lot for both of those.

I've been a member of the forum for a little less than a year, and I have learned a lot. I really appreciate everyone who takes time to contribute their knowledge - thank you all.

+1, but we all learn and share here.

That's what make this a great place to hang.

I've been lurking on here learning as much as possible from you guys before I purchase my first strat. Never could have identified that as a Highway 1, but I knew there were folks on here who could!
