Ok Guys, I tried this one before but with no luck, surely someone has a Highway HSS Strat. they could look at.

The thinner strings on my new Highway do not align in the centre of the magnetic poles across the three pickups, not even close, is this the norm?

People get very worked up about this sort of thing in reviews of top-end luthier-built guitars. In real life, it doesn't matter much - unless your poles are missing the strings by about half an inch, which I suspect they're not.

After all, since the same pole spacing works for neck pickup and angled bridge pickup, they can't both be spot on, centred beneath the strings, can they?

Don't let it bother you and get back to your playing.

(There, now you'll get plenty of replies, explaining why I'm wrong... Cheers.)

I agree that it's not a problem. Although I have seen some epiphones where the pickups are mounted so badly the strings fall in between the pickup poles. If you actually saw an example of this you would realize just how normal your fender is, hehe.

In looking at the close-up picture of the white American Standart, the low E, and the A string aren't really over the pole pieces on the neck or middle pickup. The D string is slightly off, though not as much. Hope that makes you feel better.

Look at the picture of a Jazz Bass, the strings are in between pole pieces.

If you're still bothered about this then why not post a couple of pics of your pups and someone here can tell you categorically whether it's OK...
