I recently purchased a used FSR Standard Strat with Texas Special Pickups. I run it thru a Fender Dual Chorus Amp with twin 12's. I have noticed a hum in switch positions 1, 3, 5. The hum disappears totally in switch positions 2 & 4.

Is this a characteristic of the Texas Specials, or did the prior owner make some change in the pickups and/or configuration? Or is something just worn out?

I noticed the switch had some minor static when I first moved it between positions, but it disappeared after I toggled the switch multiple times, in effect, blowing of the dust.

Any imput would be greatly appreciated before I start exploring and experimenting.

Sounds completely normal for most Fender single coil pickups. Your switch may need a squirt of contact cleaner available at electronics and auto stores everywhere.

The middle pickup is reverse wound so in positions 2 & 4 you are in Hum Cancelling mode...like a humbucker. If the noise is really bad in the other positions is could be a bad ground, but sounds like the guitar is normal. Single coils are noisier than humbuckers.

Yes, this is normal, I also have Texas specials and they hum in 1, 3, and 5, just like other single coils. It gets louder if you're near neon lighting or TV's, monitors and other electronic devices, but shielding the guitar cavity helps with that.

I believe his FSR may already have a shielded cavity from the factory. What year was your guitar made in. Check the first four of the serial number. If it's from 2006 or newer chances are it has shielding paint. To check you would look inside the pickguard to see if a wire is attached to the inside wood by a screw to a small black patch of paint.

A power conditioner would help with power line "noise" issues. A good one is not cheap.
