Ok...probably shouldn't have said "vs" there but, what the devil is the difference between Mexican Standard tuners and American Standard (don't mean locking or staggard or anything like that)? Is it a metric vs. standard thing? Are the mounting pegs spaced differently? Looking at pictures on the internet, the stupid things look pretty much identical...both square with 2 mounting pegs (as apposed to the tiny screw such as on Pings) and I think both are made by Schaller, yes?

Basically I recently got a '99 Mexican Strat (my first H-S-S) in that Midnight Blue and I'm thinking about dressing her up a bit. I don't normally go in for the pearloid look, but I think a pearloid pickguard with the gold hardware and gold tuners with the pearloid buttons...with this color, that might look pretty cool 8). The problem is that I can't seem to find them anywhere for a Mexican...and I do NOT want to put any extra holes in the headstock on this one (i.e. no vintage/Klusons, etc).

Thanks,
Jim

Basically they are interchangeable. I put American staggers on a MIM and MIM's on an American. No problems with MIM's made after 2006. I do not have earlier versions of the MIM's to compare to. So YMMV. Same goes for pickguards as they are interchangeable on the 2006 MIM's and newer.

+1.

Though as it happens, the tuners on my regular Am Standard are indeed staggered, which as far as I'm aware is the only functional difference to the ones on MIMs. Unless they're putting those on MIMs as well, nowadays.

Staggered poles are not vital. But all things being equal I'd sooner take them than not: one less string tree required.

Cheers - C

I replaced the tuners on my MIM and MIA Standard Strats with Schaller Locking tuners. The tuners I removed from both guitars were the same "two pin" Fender tuners. The Pick-gaurd was also the same 11 hole pick-gaurd for both guitars.
