I started out with 8's on electrics and 10's on acoustic when I first started to play. I am now using 11's on my electrics and 12's on my acoustic. I find the tone is rich and full, but you really need to have finger strength to do bends.

11-48s. If you want comfort, you can adjust the truss rod for a little bow.
I find the SRV strat to be easy to play, and I think that was his secret.

This gets more sound out of the guitar, and you can hit the guitar like Pete Townsend.

A little time gets you the stronger wrist. I enjoy the sound as well. Raise the action for best sound.

And BTW, I can play thrash on it no problem. Just lift weights or do push-ups!

I use a Lite Ash Strat, and these hints really get the acoustic volume louder!

10's for my Strats, but I toss the .017 plain and install a .018w instead.

10's.. Most Fender's don't have a nut cut out for 11's... You'll bind up the nut on either the B or high E. Maybe you won't, but since they are usually cut for 9's, 10's would be the better way to go. For me, its more about feel than tone... Think about this.. Billy Gibbons has monstrous tone... He uses 7's! I don't even know where to find a string that thin!

Good grief! 7s??? Even when I play 9s I end up bending the strings off the neck (seriously) as I also play acoustic (blues and such). If I had 7s it would be hard to even imagine  Like playing an air-guitar.

9's on 25 1/2" (Fender, Ibanez, etc.)
10's on 24 3/4" & 25" (Gibson, PRS, etc.)

I agree with a lot of the guys here; for me it's mostly a feel thing.

I used 12's for ages on 25 1/2" scale guitars, then went up to 13's, then down to 10-46, and now using 9-42 on pretty much everything.

I don't miss the heavier strings at all - my playing is a lot more sensitive than it used to be.
