Is there any reliable way to distinguish a legitimate Strat body from one of the many, many Strat replicas (or for that matter a MIM from a MIA, from a MIJ, etc).

Contours? Weight? Anything?

Usually can tell by the routing, CNC holes/ lack there of, and body code stickers. It always so cut and dry. The best way is to really study the model you are looking for and know what signs to look for. One type of routing that's correct for one fender series could be completely wrong for another.

For best results post a pic. We have some very knowledgable people here but not much can be learned about it without seeing it.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I don't have it yet actually... got it as part of a lot buy and it's got what appears to be an unmarked headstock on the neck. i'm curious to see if something was removed, or if it was just a blank to begin with. Also curious to see if there's anything stamped on the butt of the neck. It's probably just a crappy strat copy, but it'd be nice to know what to look for.

I'll post pics when I get it!
