If I recall correctly I believe hard tail bridges position the mounting screws under the saddles rather than in front of the saddles. A quick look at the first hard tail model I found here on the Fender site seems to confirm this.
Pawn Shop Strat
That would put the screws either right in or else very, very close to the trem block opening. I suspect there would be either nothing or insufficient wood to screw to. I suppose you could fabricate a custom fit block of hardwood to glue into that opening but it would very difficult to reverse if you found you didn't like it. It may also prove to be a little bit of a challenge to lay out the correct position of the mounting screws to maintain scale length.

I'd suggest looking at an alternate body from Warmoth or StewMac or some such and try that first.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

i already have the body. it is routed for a trem but to be honest i dont particuarly want one. however, im not so opposed to the idea im going to start messing about with the guitars body, so i'll just fit a tremelo and deck it.

You're going to have to infill the cavity, end of story.
If you don't, if you could get away with just positioning the bridge plate and have enough body wood to screw to, you'd still need lumber under the bridge for the string to pass through

Seems very pointless to me.

Just deck and block the trem.
