Hi.

First post here and happy to be here. :P

I have what I think is a late model Stratocaster body. it is definitely a Fender Strat and has three circles routed out just underneath the pickup route. The finish is a very thin red. CAR I think but wouldn't bet more than a dollar on it. Under the red is a thin coat of gold primer(?). The red is a semi-gloss.

From this info can anyone tell me what kind of finish it is? Poly? Lacquer? I want to sell it and need to know how to describe it in my listings.

Thanks!

Hi and Welcome!

Check out the FAQ and post some pictures...including any numbers you can find...

Cheers.

Hi rajastrums, welcome to the Forum.

I'd bet lots of dollars on it - and I'd win. :D

Either silver or gold under transparent red is not a primer: it's the essential ingredient of Candy Apple Red. That's what you've got.

Not enough info to go on to be certain. Pictures might help.

However, the routed circles you describe mean it's not a reissue model and I doubt it's one of the few others that have nitro finishes. So it is likely to be either a polyurethane finished US body or a polyester finished Mexican or other body.

Can't guarantee it, but if you simply write "poly" on your listing I doubt you'll be misleading anyone.

Cheers - C

Thanks guys! Solid advice.

The finish is like none I've ever owned before. That is why I thought it might be a lacquer. I could be getting confused by the semi-gloss though.

I'll get some pictures and the serial number up ummm... soon. I tend to procrastinate. I'm a stay at home dad and my three year-old twins love to "help" with all tasks.

I'm selling the body to raise money to buy them a very small but decent acoustic. They both love John, Paul, George and Ringo as they appear in A HARD DAY'S NIGHT and the rooftop concert.

You can see why I procrastinate. I tend to ramble. 8)

Thanks!

Yes. That is what I have my eye on. I've played several of these and they do have that Yamaha consistency. They can grow into it and I can play it as well. I have slender fingers. If I play it so will they. They want to play daddy's guitars but full size Teles are a comical and, if unsupervised, dangerous struggle for them. And the guitar. Usually I man the fretboard and they strum.

Yes the Yammie is pretty good at that price point and fun to play. Sounds decent too.

Can you post pictures from iPad here? I can't figure out how to go from an album to this post. I do see an Img button but can't get it to paste. My wife says it can't be done on iPad.
