I know the Pawn shop series are not very popular but I like this guitar a lot. I would probably replace the pickups with Duncans or Rios and eventually buy a Fender hard case, but I love the look and feel of this strat. It may be a step under my American Standard Strat and Tele but I still like this import model. I could see owning one for sure.

So, I have been trying to decide between the 70s Pawn Shop Strat, Chris Shiflett Tele or Jim Root Tele, all of which are imports! Any thoughts on all tghree models?

Lots of guys find it ugly but I love it and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I was expecting it to feel cheap but it feels American made.

Anyone have one? Thoughts on build quality?

Thanks!

-Rich

it's your taste so get what you want, the Jim Root Tele was pretty nice, I like the feel of Tele's but never liked the tone too much, this solved it, but EMG's aren't my thing but I liked it, haven't got my hands on any of the others mentioned

I really want the 70s Pawn Shop strat. Anyone play one and comment on build?

I've got a PS 51, the one with the hummbucker at the bridge/single coil at the neck. The fit and finish on the guitar is excellent, especially the treatment at the edge binding of the neck - it's smooth as butter and the frets are trimmed and finished perfectly. No sharpies at all. It's very solid, and the paint finish is very durable and feels substantial - not a fragile element on this guitar at all.

I'd bet that the PS70, if also made in Japan, would be finished in a similar manner. These are fun, odd-ball guitars that are a joy to play.

I tried out the '72 last year. I thought the build quality and sound was excellent. It felt exactly like a Fender is supposed to feel like, before young weak-fingered punks started messing up the designs. (Did I say that out loud?)

So I'm not the only one who actually prefer the smaller vintage frets over the newer jumbo ones?

That's right brother. I've got four Fenders, all with vintage-sized frets.

I would have to agree about the vintage frets, I own several Fenders and NONE have jumbos. It just never feels right.

I have only vintage frets on my Strats. I played the PS '72 model, and found the neck to an absolute delight. Would love to have a Pawn Shop '72 neck on a Lonestar Strat... I'd call it the Pawn Star Strat!
