Don't get me wrong,...I like the Strat I purchased recently,...but I have noticed a buzz coming from it when not playing. It's a MIM standard model. The buzzing stops if I lay my hand on the strings or turn the volume all the way down on the guitar. Could this be the stock pick ups doing this, and if so,is this a common occurrence on these models? What can be done to correct it?

Thanks
Dewey

This is common with single coil pickups, you should check your ground wiring and shield your guitar's cavity with copper shielding tape and the buzz should quiet on down

+1

Also electric motors, TV sets, and computer monitors.

even with things like flourescent lights, motors, TV's, and monitors being possible causes shielding a guitar with single coil pickups is necessary to cut down on noise

But there is noise and ...noise . My 3 Strats an 2 Tele no shield and not ( really ) noisy for my taste.

If I need to I can easely put a shied on them .

whatever works for you, although the shielding helps cut down on the 60 cycle hum, in most cases the shielding alone will silence the hum or buzzing, It's cheap enough that it is worth doing,. my guitar with humbuckers was noisy, I got a small roll of copper tape and shielded all the cavities, checked all the shielding for continuity and immediately after doing so the buzzing / hum was gone, it could be the lighting, or the wiring in the home where I live, but I found the shielding to be necessary, all I'm saying is that it is worth a few dollars to shield the cavity, ya never know where you might end up playing at, and that shielding really does make a huge difference
