Hi everybody

may somebody help me fo this strange serial number of my stratocaster neck

THE SERIAL NUMBER IS : 0902X0503

It is sure it's a 1979 Anniversary neck, what it is strange is the X between the 2 groups of 4digits

the other stange thing is : it has not the Tilt Neck

here are the pictures :

I'm also owning an alder 70S strat body, it is 100% sure that's a Fender one, the body is wine red sunburst and had never been assembled. The nitrocellulosic finsh is cracked on the whole body. I'm owning this body since circa 1978.

thanks to all for your help

It's not the serial number, it's the production date for that batch of necks. It would seem that the neck was produced between Sept 2002 and May 2003, but I'm not completely sure about that.

hi Flyng

sorry something absolutlly 100% true is the year : 1979, this is absolutly sure

the number 0902 is the year 1979 the last digit : 2 indicates that it is a maple neck, which is the case of mine.

the mystery is around that letter "X" between the two groups of digits.

the logo and the shape of the headstock including the sticker on the heel of the neck are specific to 1979 Anniversary

Took the neck off my 79 anniversary. It would seem that what you have is a 4-bolt 70 neck from 1979. More thatn likely it is an anniversary neck. My neck also as the same lonely decal as yours. There's no "original contour body" just the FENDER Stratocaster logo. Congrats dude!!!!! Psot pics of it when you get it on a bos & tricked out.

The first two digits "09" mean it's a stratocaster, not the year.

The year is in the last four digits ... 0503 and there's no 9 :!:
So it's unlikely it was made in 1979.

I believe the 05 means week 5 of
0 = 1980 and
day 3 of the week (Wednesday).

The Magic Code is explained here:

http://www.provide.net/~cfh/fender.html

They started making the 25th Anniversary strats in April 1979, I don't know when they made the last. But a year would bring it to April 1980.

.....

Hey, too-many-strats, what's the code on your neck?

.....

Here's an example 1979 code:

0902 2091 on 25th anniversary Stratocaster #251908

you're right, but we have seen by the past that some Anniversary have covered 2 years

I remember hearing (or reading) that Fender made the Anniversary Strat into 1981, but I couldn't find any reliable confirmation of that.

It sure looks like your neck was made in the 5th week of 1980, which is proof that some were made in 1980, at least.

I was wondering about the neck code of your Anniversary.

If you have any others, you could post all you want so we can test the "code meaning." Greg Gagliano did the research on the late '60s to '70s neck codes. He found that sometimes the order of things changed. I've seen 1974 to be the most confusing year.
