:D I couldn't be more excited! Found a way to tint my strat neck without sanding at all, and no, it's not shoe polish! Its straight on top of the poly finish!!! Here's a before and after! Details to follow!!! See bottom of this page for before, after and process and product used on my gold top.

Before: This is a fender stock photo. mine was exact color as this. I didn't take an original before photo, because I didn't expect this good of a turnout. I will do my other strat tomorrow and show a step by step...

After!!!!!

That's not the same neck pictured. Do you have an actual photo of the neck before.

Below pic is only one i have of neck before. Pic doesn't grab white tone properly as it was shot in dark with flash. Shouldve shot one with phone as the after was done. I can promise you, That before pic is exact color of mine before tint, soooo white. For true stock pic, go to strats on fender and see Tri burst deluxe.

Ok, tomorrow I am doing the same to my Aztec Gold deluxe. I will show you before and afters from same camera, etc...

I was doing it in case someone else wished to tint their neck, and wondered how. By the way, I have a post of my gold strat when I tried to tint the neck with shoe polish. It tinted a bit, but not what I wanted...

Perhaps you'd care to share the procedure with us when you do the second neck, Jason. I'd love to do something like that for my '66 Jazz Bass clone.

I will be glad to. I will shoot a step by step with my camera of my goldtop. Going for the Lincoln Brewster Goldtop look. Here is a link from another thread where I posted pics of the before and after when trying the shoe polish route. Dont do it. The polish does tint a tad, but leaves an awful film while playing.

I found a small bottle of leather dye, brown of course, and tested it on the heel of the neck. Worked perfect. I'll post exact brand name tomorrow, as I am away from my shop at the moment.

Here's a pic of the heel of the neck that didn't get the dye. Shows you how white this was before.

Jason, the result of the tinting looks fantastic. I'd be happy to have a neck that looks like that. Reminds me of honey. 8)

Only the American Deluxe V-Neck Strat has the vintage tint.

My two Deluxes are a 2013 Sunburst Deluxe, and a 2012 FSR Aztec Gold Deluxe. Tinting the goldtop neck in one hour.

The crazy thing about this dye, is that it truly makes it look like its aged in the sun and on the road for twenty years. Light discolorations in play spot, etc...Fairly awesome.

Here is my sunburst with neck remounted and done. From white to gorgeous aged yellow tint. Happy camper here....

Ok, just finished my Aztec Gold start neck, and Im lovin it! I did a step by step pic for you guys.

Here's The Dye. Fiebings Leather Dye #121 Medium Brown
Here's an amazon link for it. By the way, use mega SPARINGLY! Stout stuff. Wipe frets and fret grooves fast after applying. I only left tint on guitar a total of maybe 5 minutes before ligthly wiping off. Make sure to get all the grooves or you will get that deep dirt in the crevice look. You may want that! I left it longer on the sunburst for that very look. Its sick!!!!

Reassembling Goldtop in a moment....Hope this helps those who want to tint their necks without sanding through poly. This application is directly onto my stock Strat deluxe necks with poly already on.

My finished wall at my office. Notice the two strat necks really stand out in the lineup.

That Aztec Gold strat just looks the business! Has there been any compromise to the speed of the neck?

No, what I did after letting it hang for an hour to fully set and dry from the initial wipe down was to take a course rag and lightly buffed the back of the neck. Smooth as silk. A little bit lighter color on back of neck as well, so it gives that true played feel and look.

Note: After two hours, you need to go back and before installing strings, use your bare hands and rub the entire neck down. A light orange film will dissipate and leave the perfect yellow finish. Ive got a Dimarzio Area Pickguard loaded on the way in white. Gonna set it off like a custom shop.

This project was a blast!

I had to darken the neck of the Aztec, and change pickguard. Way too much gold and then the neck was whiter than this Tennessee caucasian man! I just constantly look over and stare at it! lol.
