Look into a Mexican Strat, you can find them between $200-350. What's your budget?

Welcome to the forum!

The best advice I can give you is to go to a music store or two and play every guitar in your price range. Pick the one YOU like the best.

MIM's are great! and they aren't too expensive. But I would take Chet's advice...can't go wrong if you do that!

Get the Jimmi Vaughn - I think this would be a fun guitar to learn on.

American Standard: $1300
Mexican Standard: $350

For a beginner who may or may not end up a guitar player, the Am. Std. is a bit pricey.

Don't buy a cheap peice of junk. Spend a little($200-400) bit of money, and get something that will work well. Have a pro set it up, and take lessons, or go online and learn all you can. Welcome to the wonderful world of 6 string bliss!!

If you are just learning the basics, I would recommend taking an experienced player type friend with you shopping to find the cheapest good playing guitar you can find. Also if you are going to start lessons you instructor might have recommendations as to possibly renting an instrument to try. Maybe a Squier or Jay Turser strat copy. It is really discouraging to have to learn on a poorly setup instrument. If you know you are going to stick with it and I mean you are sure you should get an American Standard ($1000 new) if you can afford one or a nicer MIM strat like a 50's classic player's Statocaster ($800 new) I just got one of these classic beauties on ebay in near mint condition for around $450.00 for a 2006 and it is nice!! I look back at all the guitars I went through (and lost considerable cash on) when I got started and wished I had gotten a cheap good one to start with and then patiently waited and saved to buy nothing, but, keepers from then on. I would have just as many guitar and all would be keepers! [/b]

I would get the best American I could afford and save 35 to 40 dollars to have a good tech do a steup, you won't be sorry and will probably stay intrested in playing the guitar a lot longer than to buy the cheapest you can . This my opinion only! Don't want to rile anyone (gj) up . Good luck and enjoy!!

I just purchased a brand new 2007 MIM Strat and I can tell you that I'm in love. It's easy to play and it's comfortable to play. However, I would also advise you to go to your nearest GC, Sam Ash or other guitar retailer and try as many guitars as they'll allow to see what YOU like the best. I do not believe you can go wrong with a Strat that you've hand chosen. It's a great beginner guitar AND a great veteran guitar.

If your looking for your first guitar, you might want to buy a squier pack. After that, once you detect small flaws in the guitar you don't like, that means it's time to get a better guitar, that suits you personally. 8)
