I'd give the .047ufd cap by itself a try first. I think that's what Fender is using for these pickup in factory installations, along with 1MΩ pots.

You're right about the Vintage Noiseless pickups being "persnickety" when used with certain amps. They seem somewhat sterile sounding through a traditional blackface or tweed-type amp but become more "animated" when used with the saturated gain-stage models like the Supersonic and the HR series.
