Or you could post this thread in the Fender Amp lounges.

So that's about 580 USD [?], I'd go with a Hot Rod Deluxe, or Blues Jr.
Great amps :)

I like Marshall and Fender amps.

I just dislike Crate amps entirely.

OK, so you dig the "British Sound" for amps, eh? Check out the Little Giant by Blackheart. It's a class-A tube amp without tons of features, but is pretty dang sexy when overdriven. While you could make it good for metal with some stompboxes, the real joy is when you play it with just the guitar (this means, don't leave your guitar's volume at 10... you gotta finesse her). The Little Giant is basically a botique amp without the botique price. Really good for recording and small-venue playing, but would need to be mic'd at larger venues.

Alternatively, the Little Giant's big brother, the Handsome Devil is really nice, too. It's more wattage and has more knobs to play with.

The Little Giant comes in combo version ($275US) and a stack version ($300US for head+12"Cab, $175US for head alone).
The Handsome Devil comes in combo version ($400US) and a stack version ($300US for head, $140US for 10"Cab, $150US for 12"Cab, $450US for 4x12 Cab in either slant or straight).

I just got the Little Giant from Blackheart... a really mean little 3/5 watter that can scream! Very sensitive to your picking and eats most all pedals for breakfast. I love it; just wish it had a reverb. I still want to get the Superchamp XD though for the cool FX channel.

For those wanting a British sound there is the perplexing problem that Marshall don't really cater for small valve/tube amps. It's mostly 50 or 100 watts with Marshall (a few exceptions, I know). Strange gap in their range.

So that's when you go and look at Cornford: handwired British boutique amps at way below boutique prices. www.cornfordamps.com. The Cornford Harlequin is 6w class A, while the Carrera is 5 or 8 watts and includes verb. MASSIVE tone at home/studio volume levels and affordable prices.

But more than the OP wants to spend: for him may I recommend the Orange Tiny Terror Combo, new out? That's a knockout amp, 15w RMS at... only a bit more than the gentleman wishes to pay. www.orangeamps.com.

How are the Cornfords priced? I can't find a site that gives a price range.

They're not cheap, but they're kinda half the price of typical boutique, and they're handwired point-to-point with no PCBs, and not built in the Far East. They sound flippin' fantastic, in my very humble opinion. The way you could put it, what Rivera are to Fender, Cornford are to Marshall.

I think you are in the US, yitty79? Check their website: I count 12 dealers Stateside, under "dealers and links". www.cornfordamps.com

Also. If that is the kind of sound you are into, then do you know about the latest thing: some guys who used to design for Marshall left a couple of years ago and set up Blackstar Amplification. Again, hotrodded Marshall type sounds at far less than boutique prices. And the best drive pedal on the planet! Take a peek: www.blackstaramps.co.uk

Cheers
