That body is A-OK. Nothing suspect about it at all.

Thanks Niki, I had my doubts, but good to know now I wasn't deceived by its previouse owner. Are tonerider pickups any good, or any better than the origional because I was given the origionals too?

Dunno, I've given up reading names on pickups.

Was in the guitar shop yesterday, I've a good relationship with them and help out with sales and repairs from time to time, so had no problem butting in. Some fella was looking at Les Paul style guitars, Playing these horrible LTD things with Duncans or EMG passive things in. Told the salesman to go get the Vintage AFD guitar. Plugged it in without touching the amp to A/B em and the Wilkinson things in that sounded loads better than any of the LTD's, despite being twice the price.
Another time at that shop I was able to get a Matsumoko MMK-45. The Japanese OEM Dimarzio PAF for £20. The thing hammers both the Bareknuckles PG Blues and Gibson Burstbuckers it has replaced. Though everyone says the pickups on those Japanese fakes were bad.
So I've given up on pickup makers. Just going with my ears now and paying no attention to popular opinion of pickups.

Just about to compare the MMK45 and a Duncan Designed SH6 that I've just tore out of a Jackson, in my Les Paul.

I believe the previous owned drilled the headstock for a second string tree and dropped a pair of EasyGliders on it.

The black shell pickguard and the Toneriders are aftermarket mods.

here is what your guitar should originally have looked like, except the fretboard.

the satin paint was only produced for a year, in 4 different colours, all with black plastic. hardware was all std mexican strat stuff.

Thanks guys for your input. Once I have finished rewiring/modding/cleaning this thing I will test out those tone riders. Maybe I will keep them in.

Toneriders have a strong reputation, especially at their price point. I have only used one set, in a friends guitar, and I liked their sound, but have no idea which model they were, or which model yours is.

Niki is right, use YOUR OWN ears, because it only matters if you like em. No one else cares which pickups you use, only your overall sound, and your playing. the minutiae to get there only matters to you, so you need to find what you like.
