Ok so my trem bridge was floating but today it is decked??

How did this happen? The strings have been off a day, could this have caused it?

Very confused?

My best guesses:
The tension of the new strings is different from the old ones,
and/or the neck (bow/angle) has changed when stringless.

Did you do something else besides the string change - like take the neck off, change string gauge/brand..?

Anyway, check the neck joint screws & microtilt if you have it etc.
And: do a new setup, setting the trem as you want it. A Strat is very adjustable.

Hi

No, just the strings although they were off for a couple of days.

I will attempt my first set up tonight.

If you took all of the strings off - rather than replace them one at a time - the spring tension will pull the bridge down and will make it more difficult to get it set back where it was when you restring it.

One solution is to replace the strings one at a time so that the tension remains and holds the bridge in place.

What I sometimes do is pull the bridge up a bit and put something under it to prop it up and leave it in place and then remove the strings. When you restring and tune, the tension will equalize and you should be right back in business.

Hi Bobby: I bet you've replaced a heavier gauge set with a lighter one without realising. Replacing 10s with 9s, say. Easy mistake to make, and would explain what has happened.

(Before someone suggests it, the neck changing its relief as a result of the strings being off for a couple of days is not going to account for this much difference in bridge height. And if anything the effect would be in opposite direction. Bobby's issue isn't down to neck movement.)

Cheers - C
