Isn't that what's good about this site? There's always someone who knows the answer and will take the time to write it out.

And that I do appreciate greatly.

I'm not offended. I know what you are saying and I am trying to adjust my technique to it. I know its not my technique though because I've been playing for 27 years and I've never came across this problem with any guitar I've played (that I can recall). Thanks for the info and making me feel a bit more comfortable now with replacing the nut if I decide to.

I still love the guitar anyway and the scalloped neck has got me hooked.

As soon as I saw the title of this topic I knew rhe YJM Strat was the subject. I had the same problem with mine, and (finally!) overcame the demon E slip by playing it EXCLUSIVELY for a little over a month. Your fingers will automatically adjust with practice. Be forewarned, though, after each time you play one of your other guitars, you will need a ltlle warm up on the YJM to regain the touch, BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT!

I'm not sure about this but from what Smark said, you'll be moving the truss rod slightly, so maybe if you adjust the truss rod that might help. On the other hand, don't try this unless some else agrees with me because I'm not too sure whether it will actually help.

I have never seen this happen on my brother's Strat, and doesn;t sound like something Fender would do. I think it was just a minor manufacturing flaw, and what you would need to do is replace the nut, but that's just a guess. i haven't had that kind of thing happen with my guitar experiences (but sounds like something that could be common)

The proximity of the outer strings to the edge of the fretboard has always been an issue with Fender's "vintage" 56mm string spacing. That's largley why the modern bridges have a reduced string spacing of approx 52mm.
The techniques mentioned above of nudging the neck over to provide more room on the critical treble side of the board are the time honoured remedy.
As you've discovered, issues like neck wear and fret dressing can be critical in whether or not the spacing is a problem.

[This was a factor in Eric Clapton's retireemnt of "Blackie" from regular use. The wear and multiple refrets had reduced the effective width of the fretboard...causing the issues we're talking about here ;^)]

So Radd,
did you get the problem fixed?

Please don't keep us wondering!
