I've had this Fender Strat since I was in high school in the 70's. I've been the only of the guitar. It has all original internals/externals. I'm looking for a rough price estimate if I were to sell this. Thanks.

Nice looking Strat :!: Looks to be in Very Good condition, so I would estimate around $3000 to $3500 USD! Maybe a bit less as it is a hard tail, and those are not as desirable. Still a sweet looking guitar.

That's a really nice Strat, and it's in ecellent shape for a circa 1979-1981 Fender. That being said I have to agree with stratele52 that $2K is pretty much top dollar for a late 70s hardtail Strat these days.

The late 70s models had just hit the higher "near-vintage" pricing right before the economic downturn in 2008; they have also been slower to recover the higher pricing. It also depends on where you live - in some areas of the USA you would hard pressed to get $1,200-$1,500 for a late 70s Strat, but in most areas the average is going to be in the $1,700-$2,000 range.

Regarding the serial number - for whatever reason Fender used headstock decals with the "S9" prefix from the tail end of 1978 through 1981; they then jumped to the "E2" prefix for Strats in 1982 (although some early 1982 big headstock Strats would still have the "S9" serial number prefix there are also a few other big headstock Strat with the "E2" serial number prefix, but most "E2" prefix Strats are the smaller headstock/4 bolt neck "Smith Strats").
