I have seen countless Fender American Stratocasters in Guitar center used in perfect condition with case for about $600
That is affordable American
I also have seen every configuration there s-s-s, s-s-h, and h-h

Something to consider.

I just recently bought 2 new guitars and it is thrilling to register it but...
You can get more for your money used just buy where its been pro checked out and you can return it.

Man, I gotta get over to Guitar Center in Independence then! My experience w/ Guitar Center in Bridgeton, Crestwood and Fairview Heights is usually a like new US Strat or Gibson is priced at most $200 under the price of a new one; sometimes only $100 under new price... and they won't honor their coupons! They will give a 10% discount IF you trade something. But I have seen many used Fenders and Gibbys priced OVER the price of a new when there is a special manufacturer sale and/or GC coupon deal! Doesn't make sense!

Last time my wife and I were there I pointed out a 600 American standard to her. It was late 90s early 2000s it was with case black singles and rosewood fretboard, looked clean from wall. I didnt see the back of it I had just gotten one. I notice those because black is my fav. Missouri is kinda farmville so you can get deals down here but everyone is broke.

Yeah, somebody actually wins those contests. 8) Although, the Clapton Strat and Tremolux would be really sweet.

Had my choice of American Specials and went for the Strat. Hard to go wrong that way. And we'll see how the Texas Specials do.

I wouldn't worry about it. And there is a place on the board for Squier, but not for Mexican or Japanese.

I have American, Mexican, even a Chinese Squier Bass. I choose them for what sounds good and feels good. (Sadly, don't play any of them good enough for Crossroads.) :(

On another note,
Most of the old timers on here, and I use those words in a good way, have a mass of knowledge that can't be beat. I have seen them all go way out of their way to help some poor soul who has bee ripped off or has a gig to play "tonight" with an amp that currently is only good for making toast.

They have helped me and countless others through some difficult issues and we all learn from each other. Need an obscure part that has been out of production for 35 years? They are the ones that can find it.

Yeah, sometimes, some can sound arrogant or holier-than-thou because they don't like being talked down to. You don't either.

Best just to let it roll of your back and move on to the next post. Or take a break for a day or two... There is no argument if one of the parties is silent...

Gibson? I drive a Chevy so I can't talk to the guy driving a Bentley? What's up with that? Over here, the guys with the Custom Shop gear, including me, will help the Squier guys all we can. We understand that some people only have so much to spend and have to make do with a $300 guitar. There is no class warfare. Although, there sometimes is a Vintage vs. Modern skirmish.

Anyhow, hang in there man. Getting back to my Strat for a while.

I am so far. Having a tone control for the bridge pickup in interesting. NOT having a tone control for the middle pup is a little interesting as well.

I've yet to plug this into anything above 15 watts yet.

And at this price?

I'm Lovin' it!

Getting back to the OPs question. I have an American Special sss in two tone that I bought two months ago. These guitars are amazing, easy to play with great necks, sound great, and are beautiful to look at. They are 799.99 with the summer sonic boom! I paid $650.00.

+1
Bought mine a little over a year ago; identical to this one shown. And as you said, I love it too; the sound, the feel of the neck and the look. Can't beat the price you paid either.
