Mine seems to be having a few tuning stability issues - definitely some friction at the nut and/or string-tree, as there is pinging. Haven't even dared use the tremolo properly yet - throws it completely out. Might need a further set-up from the store, which they are more than happy to do - for an entire year.

Clearly in need of a setup. First aid to that pinging is a dab of lip balm applied with a toothpick in the nut grooves, string tree and saddles. The tremolo springs probably need to be adjusted, too - choose either floating or decked (the latter is easier).
And: if you have that one-year-setup-warranty, use it & lurk behind the luthier's shoulders so you see & learn what to do.

PS: CAR with maple, small headstock - one of my favorite Strat combinations.

Thanks for digging the CAR axe and for the advice about greasing the string system. Thought about Vaseline at one point, but using lip balm sounds better. Definitely going to take it back in the next few weeks, as one of the main reasons I bought a Strat was for the tremolo, of which I don't know that much about technically. For instance, what is the difference between floating or decked?

The key to getting to know a Strat is the Fender Stratocaster Setup Guide - study it, if and when you bear to set the guitar down sometimes.

A floating tremolo is when you adjust the trem springs so that the back end of the bridge plate is a little above the guitar body (Fender spec 1/8" = 3.2mm gap). You can both drop and raise the pitch with the trem arm.

A decked tremolo is when you tighten the trem springs more, so the back end of the bridge plate is flush with the body. You can only drop the pitch with the trem this way, but some still prefer this setup. Easier to setup, and somewhat more forgiving when you break a string - with a bit of luck the five remaining strings stay in tune

(And the third option is the so-called Clapton block - you completely block the tremolo movement with a wooden block in the trem cavity. You get a hardtail-Strat with a trem-Strat sound, if you will.)

Ah yes, the only time I can bear putting it down is to pick up the Duo-Sonic. Appreciate your tips and link. 8)
