Have you also tested Rio Grandes and Lindy Fralins?

Rio Grandes to me are too dull.

Going to do my best to keep the guitar stock, other than the bridge pickup.
Honestly the diamondback has one of the most beautiful clean tones so I am trying to make it work.
I have lots of hot humbuckers so I want to keep this strat with the 50s theme.

Still under consideration:
Duncan Hybrid
Duncan Pearly Gates
Duncan 59
Duncan 78
Duncan Pearly Gates Plus
Dimarzio Air Classic
Dimarzio 36th

If you finally decide to buy a '59, get the trembucker version. You'll not be dissapointed from the excellent rockin' sounds this fat beauty delivers!

Regular '59s are fine, too!

You know, I saw a band live a few years ago and the guitarist had a custom built strat. His tone was incredible. I asked him after, what pickups and he said Duncan 59 baby. LOL.

But, I am told the 59 does not work with 250K pots.

I am thinking the 59/Custom could be more my speed with some Duncan stacked singles like the Classic Stack. The Fat 50s annoyed me at rehearsal today. :(

Don't despair!

That's why we have pickup experts like Martian and Big Hair Andy to help. Send them a PM!

OK, feel like I am losing my mind. I found out that the place we played had power problems and grounding issues. That was the cause of all the fuss, not the pickups. I went back and verified with some other guitars. This evening I had time to go into my music room and crank up through my Bogner 20th Anniversary Shiva with EL34s through my Celestion Greenback loaded Splawn 412, and I will say, I can't find fault with this strat. Playability is insanely good. Tone is off the charts, the Diamondback bridge humbucker actually sounds warm, full, beefy, punchy and medium output. No complaints at this time and it blends perfectly with the Fender Fat 50s. Sure the Fat 50s are not quite as hot as I would like, similar to my 2003 Highway strat's single coils, but they seem much quieter than those single coils. Even with gain, only time I hear any noise from the Fat 50s is when I am actually playing, and it is hard to notice and certainly can't notice it in a band setting.

The Diamondback may not do the tight lows as well as some pickups but I have plenty of humbucker equipped guitars to handle anything else I need.

Alternatively you can try a Lace Sensor Hot Gold pickup set with a hot humbucking Dually for the bridge position.

Lace Sensor Hot Gold pickups have a slightly stronger output -similar to the Fat '50s- while retaining the definition you get from the regular Gold Lace Sensors while adding strong lows and incredible mids. The Hot Gold Dually humbucking pickup has the snarl, crunch and bite you might expect from the '59 Trembucker.

Why do you like lace sensors so much? What company makes them?

I have the regular Golds in my Strat. I chose the Laces after saw EC and JB using them in the late 1980s and the 1990s.

Actodyne makes those world-famous pickups since 1985.

So I am still loving this strat but I can't get it to stop buzzing. Maybe it is a bad string. I never have fret buzz on Telecasters but always on strats. :(

And one last note, as much as I like my Fenders, how does PRS do it? My PRS CE-22 is probably the most stable, consistent and best playing guitar I have ever owed.

I love the Diamondback humbucker. Man, what a great sounding humbucker. Perfect clean tone, super fat, beefy, organic tones under gain! I may have to run more pickups in this output range. This makes me want another HSS strat so that I can check out the Atomic humbucker. I do wish the Fat 50s were noiseless. I am starting to get annoyed. Maybe I should try the Fender Hot noiseless or some Dimarzio Area pickups, etc. I want to retain the great inbetween tones however, the Diamondback splits well! :)

Wow, this strat is amazing. The Diamondback does it all feom crystal clean to thick blues to pop to metal. Althrough my Bogner and PWE, it kills. So juicy and rich!

The Duncan 59 is apparently best with warm instruments that have a rosewood board. I am using a strat with a maple fretboard.
I bet the Diamondback sounds a lot like the Duncan 59. I believe the Fender DB and Duncan 59 may be the same pickup.

I am confused on the 250k, 300k or 500K argument? I am thinking of trying a 500K volume pot in my strat but I doubt my ears are good enough to notice a big difference. I rarely change those unless necessary like in my SG Special, I have a Gibson HB-R 13K bridge pickup and I used a 300K Volume to tame some brightness since the neck and bridge pickups share the Tone pot.

I have accepted that this strat does some things well and other things not so well which is fine. I am not a fan of jack of all trades guitars, especially since I have a lot of different types of guitars. Only my PRS CE-22 seems to be a jack of all trades. In stock form, this American strat sounds amazing with the Black Diamond pickup and the Fat 50s, so I may leave it alone. The Fat 50s seem as fat and full as any stacked single I have tried. The DB humbucker almost sounds like a single coil mixed with a humbucker when played clean. moderate and even high gain are very clear and articulate, solos sound wonderful. It's weakest point is heavy palm mutes and that is a very small portion of my playing style these days and I already have a pile of guitars that do that well, so I may do best to save money and keep it stock. :)
