I am trying to make the stock guitar work for me and to be honest I should probably keep it stock for a while to see what it can and can't do and what I may want.
The Fat 50s are fantastic clean but I do wish there was more heat for playing solos.

A mistake I made with my Tele was swap crap from day one or day two. Although I do have to have a humbucker in the bridge so once I installed the Lil 59, I had to replace the pots to 500K and swap out the Twisted Tele neck cause it didn't balance well with the Duncan so now I have a Tele with essentially humbuckers although the neck Vintage Stack sounds exactly like a good single coil to my ears. :)

I like the Fender Atomic and wonder if it would match with the Fat 50s singles?

If only the Fat 50s were hotter for better soloing. I also really haven't opened it up yet because since I have had the guitar, I haven't had a night or day alone at home to turn up. It is killing me not being able to test this sucker. :(

By the way, I use an ISP Noise reduction pedal but I thought noise gates and reduction pedals do nothing for single coil hum.

They do a little good yeah because I dont have any noise but my gate is internal like a loop would be. I replaced a couple Dimarzio hum canceling stack single coils for hot alnico 3 single coils in my american deluxe. I played them in a Highway 1 and liked them better than the Texas Specials and I could have bought what I wanted, they are hot.
Man you may be looking for that Yngwie stack single or the Paul Gilbert Injecter Dimarzio Stack Single not sure what you want there.

Go to Ebay and type Fender Hot Rod Pickup thats the Atomic in Aged White or if you want a Black one just type Fender Atomic. a JB Trembucker is about the same thing.
The also make the Fender Enforcer which is high output ceramic. If you play alot at bedroom level you will like the 500k pots if you are at band level and loud I found the 250k sounds sweeter on a humbucker.

The Fat 50s are sounding great man. I am falling for them, they sound as good as the Hot Alnico 3 singles I had in my 2003 Highway strat. A bit cleaner and quieter!

The DB humbucker is OK but I think a Duncan 59/Custom hybrid would rock.

Keep in mind I use 500K pots in my Tele with Duncan Little 59 and stack and they rock....nice and warm at gig volumes!!! However, the Stat has brighter pickups so the 250K pots should be OK.

Hot AlNiCo IIIs didn't came into surface until 2006.

That is what I was told was in my 2003 Highway. No?

Anyway, these Fat 50s sound perfect, nothing to change. Only the Diamondback is coming out for a Duncan Pearly Gates or Custom/59 Hybrid.

I may try the Dimarzio Norton bridge humbucker and Virtual Vintage 54 pickups.

Single coil hum? Where is it?!

My Fat 50s really don't hum. Even with my noise supressor off, they are quiet. I get a tiny bit of noise when playing but in a band, I can never hear anythin unusual. Plus, noiseless singles never ever feel or sound as good as true singles. :D

I also had a stacked single in my Tele and the replacement true hot single is so much better!

The AlNiCo IIIs coincided with the introduction of the second breed of Highway 1 guitars and basses in 2006.

The redesigned HWY1s resembled much like the CBS Fenders from the 1970s cosmetic-wise.

Discontinued and replaced by the American Special series in 2011.

So if I keep the pots stock 250K and the Fat 50s as well....any humbucker suggestions to be a drop in replacement for the Diamondback? Problem is, the DB sounds amazing clean, just not fat and warm enough with gain. So, I am thinking Duncan C/59 Hybrid, Dimarzio Norton, Air Classic or Air Zone.

Duncan '59 Trembucker.

Image

It's the same pickup used on many Custom Shop Showmasters.

Blends nicely with the Fat 50s. :P

Seriously? Can it handle heavy rock like Alice in Chains? I like all my guitars different and I have lots of Gibsons and PRS with hot pickups so maybe the 59 will be great for my strat and I can replace the Diamondback. I will say, the Little 59 in my Tele is my favorite Tele bridge pickup and we cover everything with that thing. Then again, I don't want all my guitars to do the same thing.

Would the 59 be warmer than the stock Diamondback? Bright? I will keep the stock 250K pots. Keep in mind, my strat has no tone for the bridge pickup! Yikes.

Funny, the Duncan 59 was the first pickup to come to mind and since I have hot modern high gain amps, a vintage output pickup works well. :-)

For amps, I have a Mesa modified Dual Rectifier, 20th Anniversary Bogner Shiva and PWE Event Horizon.

Seymour Duncan 59!
description
Late-'50s, vintage-correct, humbucker sound. Warm and crystalline clean tones. Full and bright distorted tones. Smooth sustain. Classic appointments include plain enamel wire, long legged bottom plate, vintage single conductor cable and no logo. Compared to the SH-55 Seth Lover, the '59 has slightly more scooped mids and is vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance.

Application
Versatile P.A.F.-type humbucker. Great for country, jazz, blues, funk, classic rock and heavy rock.

For balanced and warm instruments. Works especially well with mahogany bodies and rosewood fingerboards.

Available mods
Four-conductor cable. Trembucker. Nickel or gold-plated cover. 7-string version. Seymour Duncan logo. Available in matched set of '59 bridge and '59 neck. Colors (humbucker spacing).

Players
Ben Harper (neck & bridge), Robben Ford (neck & bridge), Mike Einzinger / Incubus (neck), Robert Smith / The Cure

Cable: 1-Con Braid Shield
DC Resistance: Neck: 7.43 k; Bridge: 8.13 k
