I want to put a push/pull pot in a Strat at the volume position so I can turn on the bridge pu regardless of the setting of the 5 way switch. I've got a 500k p/p pot and I know I should use a 250k. What will the 500k do to the tone. I'm hoping it won't be so drastic if so... I'll wait till I get a 250k. Any ideas??

Just an idea. Have you considered a blend pot? I put on on my strat with CS69 pups. It allows me to roll the bridge AND neck on and off as much or little as I want. It substitutes my lower tone pot. Here is what it can do.

Selector 1 Bridge + as much of the neck as I want
Selector 2 Bridge + Mid + as much of the neck as I want
Selector 3 Mid + as much of the neck as I want
Selector 4 Mid + Neck + as much of the bridge as I want
Selector 5 Neck + as much of the bridge as I want.

I love the different blends I can get out of this setup, especially the neck + bridge for Tele like twang.

Where did you get the wiring diagram for the blend. I looked on SD site...not there. The Strat has SSL-5 in neck...SSL-5 rw/rp in middle and Hot for Strat in bridge.
Thanks for the info.

It will enhance the highs and lows of the pickups at the expense of the midrange. Also, it will require more dialing of of the pot to achieve the desired changes in volume.

You could also just solder a 470k resistor across the 500k pot, which gives you 242k - close enough to sound perfectly decent. Fender have done it that way on a couple of models in the past, and it sounds absolutely fine.

It does affect the taper a little, but not by much. You might even prefer it!
