All my Fenders hold their tune. I have MIM, MIJ, CIJ, and MIA. Do a good setup before you start digging on the MIM's!

I've only changed my strings once on my Strat, bought it February or January. I use the

Daddario Blues/Jazz rock 11-49 set.

I have tightened the tremolo bridge so the angle is less extreme than when I bought it.

I have my trem so its flat onto the face of the guitar body. I alsi have 5 springs holding it too. I dont use trem much and lac e it up with GHS boomer 11s.
I would clean everything up really good the next time you change strings. The saddles and nut slots too. It shouldn't go out of tune really bad after only playing for an hour. Unless you you use the trem a lot.

I have a Gretsch, LesPaul and PRS Custom 24 to enjoy along with my MIA Strat. My strat is by far my favorite to gig and jam with. Tone, tuning and play ability is by far the best.

I wanted mine flat to the body but when I screw the tremolo bridge from the back-plate it's VERY hard to go any further, feels like I'm gonna break it.

Are you talking about the claw screws?
If so you may have to take a 1/16" drill bit with a 45° or 90° angle-chuck drill and drive a deeper pilot hole. I've sometimes encountered bodies that were difficult to drive the screws into, particularly ash bodies. I don't know if Fender drills pilot holes for those screws or not and if they do I don't think it's very deep. If you do this please take care to get your bit to the bottom and center of the hole and hold the drill square to the hole first before you squeeze the trigger on the drill. You don't want to accidentally strip the existing threads already cut into wood by the screws.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I have had mostly success with inexpensive and expensive guitars. Given that the string is constant, then the only thing that can affect tuning would be a change in the guitar. The nut is the usual suspect, even on a fixed bridge guitar. It is good practice to tune, play 10 min. then tune a 2nd time to warm up the guitar and strings. It could be the bridge or tuners, but the different species of wood and construction will respond differently to changing temp, humidity, etc... I mentioned a loose truss rod as the culprit in another thread, that happened on a epi dot. If you can figure out what part(s) are inconsistent you can have dependable tuning on almost any guitar. I say almost because if it's a poorly constructed guitar, it's just not worth it.

I feel the same way about my Fender Precision Bass. Everytime I check the tuning, it is right on. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

As long as I don't take it outside into the cold, it stays rock solid.
And when I clean my strings with alcohol, it temporarily goes out of tune because the strings get cold from the evaporating alcohol. A little while later, it is back in tune without touching the tuners.

What kind of strings do most of you use?

+1
With locking tuners and clean, properly lubed points of contact (nut, saddles, etc.),
my MIMs stay dead-on tune unless they are subjected to severe temperature changes.
I keep going back 'n' forth between Fender pure-nickels and GHS Boomers.
I've had the best experience with those.

I know it may sound strange, but I get the best sound out of Elixir Nanoweb 10's! I love the velvety-sustain they produce in the 4th position. Holding tune and rockin hard!
