I am blown away at the stability of my strat. Played an hour long set the other night, left the guitar over night in temp changing room for 3 days, picked it back up....In Tune!!!

My Gibbys rock, but have to tune constantly between songs. Thank you Fender for superior technology in my opinion. Gives me peace knowing I'm holding handcrafted perfection when I play live twice a week. Rock forever, Fender!

SATISIFIED!!!

I'm with you there, i had only played a couple MIM strats and epi LPs before purchasing my MIA strat this year, and what a world of difference. I had pretty bad luck with the MIMs and LPs in general arent known for their tuning stability, but playing a quality strat is a dream when it comes to tuning. even after playing for hours it seems to be right where you left it, no matter how bad you abuse it.

I fully agree. I have an 08 gibson custom, alpine white, a 1959 relic reissue standard, a 2012 goldtop deluxe, and an SG. They get tons of wall time looks from people....ON THE WALL. My 2013 Mia strat deluxe is getting worked like a barred mule, and lovin every second of it. Tuning is dead on, smile factor???? :D

my strat is trung with 11's and hangs on the wall when I am not playing it. I play prob 4 nights a week. It actually goes slightly sharp while it sits. Once I tweak it it stays all night. Of course with fresh strings .
Strats kick $@!.....

Once you learn how to do a great setup on your guitars they will always stay in tune.

Aaah! The mystery of the perfect setup. I've had more than 3 pro-tech builders setup up my Pauls, new nut, strings, proper winding, and they still can't hold a candle to my strat in terms of holding tone, and tune. I do miss having my les Paul custom bridge pickup. Would like something similar on my strat, but it will have to be, "just right".

Speaking of setup, can anyone post a video or direct me to a video that in your opinion teaches how to do the best setup on a strat using Graphtech saddles? Thanks.

IF its not the blues, it's just another color

I have found that 3-on-a side headstocks have trouble keeping the G and B strings in-tune. I've owned three Gibsons and none of them have ever stayed in-tune properly-even after I replaced the crap Corian nuts with unbleached bone.

I have always encountered tuning issues with Les Pauls, regardless of manufacturer, particularly with regard to intonation adjustments. They don't seem to want to be dialed in. I find they are just plain fussy and I usually end up settling for some kind of compromise. The best advise I can think of is to always set up the guitar with fresh, quality strings. That means no off brands and even some name brands like D'Addarios. Not a fan of D'Addarios in any way, shape or form. Every 4 or 5 years I'll try a set just to see if they've improved and they never do. Just my opinion. LPs seem to be particularly prone to the tuning issues that go along with the confused harmonics that occur when the strings become crudded up with sweat and skin oils. Fender guitars appear to me to be less susceptable to this phenomenon. I have never been able to figure out exactly why. Perhaps it has something to do with scale length but I also wouldn't rule out the bridge assembly design. I just know that I change strings on LPs far more often than I do with Fenders just because of tuning issues.

Your right on the 3 per side tuners. I have had Gibson LP's, Epi DOTs, Washburn HB35's, Epi LP's, and a few others where the G and B strings always needed touching up after a short period of time. I have one Epi LP now that after 6 months of tweaking is just now getting better at holding in tune on the G and B strings. Raising the Stop Tail piece up a bit and angling it like the Bridge piece helped some.

Strats are not without the G out of tune from time to time. At least it's not as bad as the other manufacturers. One string is easier to deal with than 2.

Agree 100%. I don't have anything in particular against D'Addario strings, but they don't seem to do for me what they do for many others...I seem to get the best results with Ernie Balls (though they do tend to rust on me) and even Fender Bullets(!). What is your opinion of Gibson Brite Wires for Gibson guitars?

Stratocasters do indeed seem to stay in tune better than Les Pauls.

What is it with G strings, anyway??? They bedevil me no matter what guitar I'm using! Sure, they're unwound, but so are the B and E. And they tend to be fussy on acoustics as well as electrics. I cringe whenever I hear that dreaded metallic "tink" sound as I'm trying to tune a G. As Fleetwood Mac would say, "Oh, Well", it's a "Mystery To Me". :D

Never tried 'em.
In the past I've liked Gibson Vintage Nickel but I don't see them anymore. It's possible they still sell them but changed the name. I generally use Fender 150s most of the time.

Given the only point of contact between bridge and tuner on a single string-tree Strat (or an acoustic or an LP) is the nut, that's what's making the noise: the string hanging in the slot and then releasing.
Check the slot is wide enough for the gauge of string you use, and put some lube in there.

Yeah, I did notice a difference between the MIM & MIA Strats, but I wonder if it's just that MIA Strats are properly setup at the factory, prior to shipping.

Then again, you get what you pay for with MIM I guess. :?

The whole Les Paul tuning problem comes with the neck angle and angle of the strings of the A, D, G, and B strings, in which only the G and B are hard to keep in tune because they are unwound.

My standard stays in great so do both my les pauls and my American Deluxe.
I have locking tuners on everything. Really helps. Well not the Deluxe it has a floyd now.
