My friend and the other guitarist in the band still has his first strat its a 66 he got for christmas when he was 12 his mom bought it used from an old man. He doesnt play it now its worth ten grand because he routed it for a humbucker in the 80s.
The cool thing is it was spray painted and preserved the original sunburst underneath. Its been pro restored and its quite a trophy now.
His brother had one too that was in horrible shape years of abuse and mods.
He salvaged the neck and sold it and had the body painted.
He brought the whole mess to me along with a modern vintage neck a set of texas specials etc. Hey build me a strat out of this he says lol.
You ever combine modern and 66 parts? Things just dont go together click click click on this deal.

It reminds me of David Gilmour's black Strat.

The biggest issue so far was he brought me a modern 6 screw trem and I had to send him back to get the 66 due to string spacing.

Ok here it is completed
Its a 66 body with pro relic paint job even got age cracks all over it chips and digs.
The bridge I had to use the 66 block and plate due to the 2 3/16 spacing
I replaced the saddles with modern vintage curls
The block had to be retapped for a bar and is pretty loose up top threads
So basically the only things left of his brothers old 66 we used for this is body refinished and hella routed out.
Tremolo system rusted up and rank and neck plate.
The rest is all modern parts
He used Texas Specials and a Road worn neck he bought to bolt on to his real 66 to actually be able to play it.
He doesnt want to play on that neck anymore.
It actually stays in tune when you tremolo amazing.
Gotta say Im impressed with the out come.
