I'm gonna buy my first Stratocaster soon.
I'm a John Mayer fan.

Unfortunately, there are only a few used choices in my country.
and the brand new ones are MIM.

Please help me choose :)
All of which are closely priced.

Fender Highway One Stratocaster

or

Fender US Stratocaster 1988
http://talk.philmusic.com/index.php?top ... msg3751373

or

Fender American Special Stratocaster
http://talk.philmusic.com/index.php?top ... msg3863189

Oh! and please tell me if any of those strats are fake.

I would go for the 1988 Strat. But that's just me. It's your decision.

I would go for the 88 also. I've always love that look the other 2 are nice but the 88 is better if in good shape. Play theme first if possible

I would go with the American Special...not a fan of the two point trem and if you don't use one, then all the more reason to go with the American Special.

The 88 looks nice but this forum listing is from August 2012. It's still available?

Go for the American Special. John Mayer's first real Strat was a SRV signature Strat with the same Texas Special pickups that come with the American Special.

The Big Dipper pickups that come with the John Mayer signature Strat don't come on any other model and I have never seen them sold individually. But Mayer used Texas Specials in his early days.

Thanks guys! since you mentioned texas specials, let me add this to the list?.

It's a 2004 FENDER JAPAN '57 STRATOCASTER RE-ISSUE
(As so the title says)

http://talk.philmusic.com/index.php?topic=289745.0

It's much much cheaper than the 1988

It's now just a battle between the two of them :)

That one looks sweet to me! Nice color too! Make sure they did a decent job stripping the back of the neck and it is not just ruined.

In US $'s I'd buy 'em both. But that's me, in my situation and that of others. It's nearly impossible for us to know how difficult it is for you to amass $30K php. And those numbers, even for many in the U.S., might be a tough number given availability of disposable income. The other contributors have offered their impressions. In the end, it's your call. Keep us posted.
