Looks like us guitar hobbyists have a few more choices to consider:

http://www.fender.com/guitars/stratocas ... r-lacquer/

http://www.fender.com/guitars/stratocas ... r-lacquer/

http://www.fender.com/guitars/stratocas ... -plus-top/

I know there's already a thread about the MIM Standard plus-top strats but I haven't seen discussion here of the new versions of the Classic '50s and Classic '60s.

The new Classic '50s and '60s are finished in nitrocellulose lacquer (body AND neck) instead of poly and they include a tweed case. That Classic '50s in Candy Apple Red looks really nice but, if I was buying, I think I'd be looking at the Classic '60s in 3TSB..

The list price is only $188 more -- not too bad when you consider the tweed case vs. a deluxe gig bag.. It looks like the rest of the specs haven't changed.. If you're looking a "budget" Strat that will age nicely, sounds like a deal..

Thank you Fender for giving us hobbyists (not professional musicians) some neat options!

+1

More color options would definitely broaden this line's appeal.

This is good news! :D
If this series is as good as the classic series, it promises!
Fender thank you because it is a good alternative with AVRI, and if I was not married to my classic 50, it would be a good choice.
I spend too much time with it, pay the pampered and it makes me so much that I can not deceive!
But maybe a little sister?

This guitar deserves an EMG DG20 pickup set and a shortened tremolo arm! :P

Ha - I musta missed that thread. Hadn't seen these MIM plus-top Strats before - man, that is insanely good value at the price! I'm going to find that hard to turn down when I stumble across it in a shop.

Thanks for the heads-up, oldguy.

Cheers - C

Nice guitars. I don't know what the actual retail price is, but with the MSRP of $1259 I think I would rather pick up a used AVRI.

Well, we know what happened to the '57 and '62 reissues, they are now MIM. :|

I wonder if it's only the finish that is nitro? Will there still be plastic under the 'finish' on the body? That Fullerplast stuff has been used since the early sixties, then lacquer on top of that. It would be interesting to know if this is a full-on 50s paint job (no fullerplast/plastic base)...

In the '50s before Fullerplast, they sealed the wood with Sherwin-Williams Homoclad. Homoclad is an alkyd resin -- a type of polyester. So Fender has always used plastic in their finishing processes (of course nitrocellulose is a type of plastic too).
