I'm new here so I thought I'd make my first post frivolous fun fantasy. Reality need not apply.
If you could upgrade your strat without the restraints of price, practicality, and even physics, what would you do?
I would like to have the nut, saddles, and block, milled out of pure silver.

Hello Davey's evil twin, welcome to the Forum. (Are you sure you're new to this Forum? Something familiar about that username...)

Well, why stop at a few solid silver parts? Let's have the entire guitar cast from solid gold. With diamond dot markers and platinum frets. The brothel-chic-blingocaster.

Hey, even The Artist Formerly Known As The Artist Formerly Known As Prince might stop and look twice at that one.

Cheers - C

Silver's a pretty soft metal.

Ever looked at an old coin, back when US currency was actually minted of silver?

You'll notice the engraving is no longer crisp, likewise with the edges which have become rounded off due to handling. And lacking regular polishing, silver tarnishes quickly -- doubly so in the case of the high-wear areas of a guitar such as the bridge saddles and the frets.

Nice fantasy......but a very poor result should it become reality.

Arjay

Conjure the guitar playing spirit of Clapton, Guy, King, Gilmour, SRV, Knopfler and a few others, mix them into one universally great guitar mojo toxin, and then partake of it becoming the greatest strat player the universe has or will ever know!!! Muhaahaahahha!

Well anyhow, that is all I could do to upgrade the sound of my Strats.

I would have Fender american stratocasters come with floyd rose options again. instead of having to install it ourselves or have FMIC trying to cram thier Charvel and Jackson guitars down our throat when we ask for it.

It's funny that you ask, because just yesterday I was dreaming about converting my strat into a rocket to fly in outer space!

Look, here's my design:

Clear bodied with neon binding that changes color with stage lights would be cool!

Man, I was going to say gold and silver too, but then you came along and Grinched up my fantasy! Darn you Arjay!!

I guess it will have to be a platinum chambered body, hand painted by da vinci, with a neck hand carved from the cross of Jesus by the carpenter himself, a highly figured fingerboard hewn from the Methuselah tree, trolls tooth inlays, a bridge and saddles machined by angels from flawless (non-conflict) diamonds, lutetium block, unobtanium tuners, unicorn horn nut. And a flock of hawaiian tropic ladies to carry me around on a giant mammoth skin beanbag while I play it. I think a set of Lady Abigail Ybarra's pickups would top it off just nicely.

Amateur, love how after all that you finished with Abbey pups. Coincidentally I'm putting one of hers from 2004 in the middle of my new 2011 FSR. BTW, is the neck to be carved from pre or post crucifixion cross?

Welcome to the Forums. Stick around here long enough and you'll get the feeling that much of what you read herein satisfies the conditions you've set for your first post. But then you'd probably be trying to find out where you can get some of what some of these people appear to be smoking 8)

Heh, no worries. Post - I can do fantasy, but I have no desire to change history.

I would take my TARDIS back in time to the Fender factory, and purchase one Strat each year. This way I would own one Strat for every year, from 1954 – 2013.
