I have a 2006 60th Anniversary MIM Strat with Alnico V Pick Ups, and would like some feedback about replacing the Bridge PU.
The stock bridge PU is very bright and incredibly twangy, and I would like something less bright.
Any suggesstions?

Have you tried swapping the tone control from the mid pickup to the bridge? Only takes a moving one wire, and has rescued many a bright twangy bridge pickup on a Strat.

Even with the tone on 10, it'll shave off some of that ultra high end which grates on the eardrums.

+1!

Adding a base plate to the bridge pickup may also help tame the treble.

Or, rather than swapping which pickup the second tone pot controls, pop the tiny jumper wire across two lugs of the switch so that knob controls both middle and bridge pickups. The simplest, quickest, cheapest, and one of the most popular mods of them all. So popular it comes as standard on most modern Strats.

After all, you don't want to be left with a middle pickup that's too bright...

That's what I used to do, but I found (for me!) that having no tone on the mid when you do the swap does really nice things to the mix positions, and the mid pickup with that extra little bit of top actually becomes slightly more usable by itself.

I'd say try both ways, and see which works best.

I'm glad to see solutions to pickup tone that don't involve replacing the pickup.

Change the last tone control to a no-load pot. Wire the switch for both bridge and middle pickups. That will give you complete control of tones on all pickups.

No-Load pot link.

Its easier just to jumper middle tone tab to bridge like Modern American Standard wiring.
That way you have both middle and bridge one wire or I use a piece of hard wire off a tone capacitor.

But if your dead set on replacing it they make Single Coil sized humbuckers.
I like to use Dimarzios Like The Chopper or Super Distortion S
I think the Seymour Duncan 59 Jr and the JB Jr are also super cool sounding and an easy swap.

Leaving the 250k volume put kinda sweetins them up too smooths it out.

So its an easy deal to do 15 min job
Remember to turn down your volume knob before soldering on anything don't wanna cook it.

It took 11 months, but I checked out all of your ideas, and will do the simple mod to make the mid pickup Tone Pot Work for the bridge pickup.
I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Thanks!
