Do you remember the first time you played a strat live? I do, It was this morning! I've been a die hard Gibson Les Paul fan for over 10 years(still love em), but got tired of the constant tuning issues, and difficulty getting up the neck, and missing that tone that would always hear from Strat players.

I have been CONVERTED!! :P I received my 2013 American Deluxe Strat 4 days ago, and I'm in love/lust! Played it live this morning and felt like a kid with a brand new toy...just an expensive new toy! lol!

Anyway, what was your first time with your strat, and what model?

P.S. If your reply begins with, "we'll, we were in the back seat of my dads station wagon", reread what FIRST TIME means for this thread. Peace everyone...

It was in the early 70s. I don't remember what year the strat was I'm sure it was a 60 something and it was sunburst. I was more of a les Paul person back then however I did own a 72 tele.

I remember it quite well. I had a brand new, 1971 triple burst, hard tailed, rosewood fingerboard model which I played at a high school prom in June of 1971. This came with a three way selector switch as the five way wasn't invented yet. As a favor, Larry DiMarzio installed a second three way directly above the OEM one so I could get all pickup combinations. He also installed one of his hand wound, "hot" bridge pickups at the same time.

Yeah I sure do remember, it was fall of 1976 and it was a High School Dance. The Strat was a 1962, sunburst, great guitar...miss that one big time. I used that for a long time with a Marshall amp (played pretty clean though). I like the sound of it, but always wanted a Les Paul...partly because everyone played em in my area, I lived 20 miles from Kalamazoo and my uncle worked at Gibson. He was a big influence, as I started out playing/jamming with his band...I STILL remember playing Tommy James' "Draggin The Line" with em! What fun! I sold it in 81 since I had a nice Les Paul Custom, I don't have either of those guitars anymore, but I don't miss that heavy azz Les Paul, but that Strat I sure do!

Sweet! Wouldn't it be amazing to find that original strat you had, and hear the stories of its travel.

This morning as I was playing rythm, there was a moment where everything was just right, and in the the glory pocket. What a time for my first Strat on her first outing.

More important to me, was the first time I played a Strat, period. I was at Music 6000, in Olympia, WA (1993) and wanted to get something new and different. I had been playing a MIJ '62 Custom Tele, and I was looking for a warmer sound.

I must have played 5 or 6 other guitars and then I picked up a stripped to the wood and stained, '87 Strat Plus. It sounded so amazing. I was in love right there on the spot. That guitar had been my main guitar for 6 years until one day when I really messed up and sold because of a woman :(

I've owned lots of different guitars, but in the end I always feel my heart is in the Strat.

One of my bandmates acquired his in the fall of '58. I borrowed it one evening to use it at a dance to back up a couple of guys from the neighborhood who were singing as a duo at the time. I'd played it before when we got together to jam, but the dance was the first time I played it 'live'. Four year later he sold it to me. I played it professionally for nearly ten years after.
[Hmmmm....Great name for a band, that!!]

It was a warm summer night in Ancient Greece and I'd just carved my first stratocaster from a block of sandstone.......

Seriously though, I'll put down as one of the younger guys (at least it seems that 36 is young around these parts), I first played a strat in about '93 and after a series of less than satisfactory guitars and a period of being an 'acoustic guy' I finally bought one, which just so happened was a '93.

January of 1968, at a youth council dance held at our local Methodist church. I had a five-piece band and I played my '66 Strat though a '67 silverface Super Reverb, with a Vox Tone Bender. We opened with Cream's "SWLABR" and closed with "You Keep Me Hangin' On" by Vanilla Fudge. I think I made fifteen bucks.
