Hi all!

I'm looking for a decent stratocaster in my area and i came across this listing:
http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sel ... Z467797143

I'm confused when it comes to what happened in 2004 (all the different anniversary models), so it's hard for me to assess if this is a good deal (or if this guitar is any good).
I'm inclined to offer 600-650 or so, but my radar is off.

Any insights?

Thanks!!

"Not many hardtail " , that's the seller write . Yes nobody want a Strat without a tremolo arm.

If you are sure it as these ( expensive mods ? ) and you really like the guitar by test drive . The price is not bad.

By the way I'm living close to this place , but I don't need a fourth Strat

Yeah, that's why so many people block the trems right? A hard tail Strat is a matter of taste and I happen to have a hard tail and play it more than my other Strats. You don't see many and if you seldom if ever use a trem, a hard tail may be the way to go. I love mine!

It's just a 2004 hardtail American Series with the locking tuners and Vintage Noiseless pickup set added. You're spot on with an offer of $600 or so (maybe up to $650 if you really like the Vintage Noiseless).

Eery USA non-reissue Strat assembled during the calendar year 2004 got that "50th Anniversary of the Stratocaster" neck plate so this is not one of the special anniversary editions and the seller has priced it accordingly. I kind of agree that even with the mods to this one that $700 is the upper limit for the hard tail.

Thanks for the replies!

Ah so it's not an anniversary model or anything like that.

I'm hoping that this guitar might be able to scratch my 'strat' itch.
Where on the spectrum would this fall? Closer to good quality or cheap-o?

I've played hardtail guitars most of my years playing and even when I have a tremolo I dont tend to use it (habits), so i dont think that bothers me.
The mods are a definite asset.

I learned on a squier affinity as a kid and now I just want a good, decent strat, and this seems like a convenient opportunity.

I have the 2004 Fender Frontline catalog. There are only 2 hard tail in American made guitar , a HH and SSS .

This series is call "American Series " and it is second after American Deluxe series.

Came originaly with Alder body ,Deluxe stgrd tuners, 3 american Strat SC pickups

So it is a very good guitar.

There is a real 50th anniversary American Series Stratocaster but this one is not the same as "yours" . Bridge is not the same , is like American Deluxe series , Delta Tone system, 3 vintages 1954 custom shop pickups . And a special commemorative 50th anniversary neck plate.

Thanks for the info!!

I'll def go give it a try and if everything is in order, there's a good chance i'll pick it up.

I wonder what the MSRP was on it... (not that it REALLY matters or anything).

I don't have the price.

IMO rush to try it . If it is a deal it is already sold

Part of my skepticism comes from the fact that the listing is a few weeks old.. so im wondering why it hasnt sold yet..

Good question ;

Hard tail less popular ? Myself I'm sure of that.

Black not the niciest color IMO

Sound ?

I checked on The Official Vintage Guitar magazine Price Guide 2006

Page 59 , American Series Stratocaster

2000 -2005 hard Tail ash body ,exc. cond $625

Tremolo strat hash body $675

American Standard 1990-1999 $700 To give you range price for today

Wow thanks! Definitely helpful.

Does the fact that this is an alder (and not ash) body change anything?

+1

I own three hardtails myself, all of them custom-built.
