Folks, after over 5 years as a hardcore Les Paul fanatic, both collecting and playing twice a week live, and many aching nights of a stiff neck and numb shoulder(A 2007 Gibson LP Custom:9.8 Lbs.) I have been bitten by the Fender Bug and I can't shake it. I heard a friend play recently and the tone of his American Standard has captivated me!!! I haven't even bought my first, and I know there will be many days of transition, but I look forward to hearing that sweet strat tone echo thru my amp knowing that my fingers and Fenders craftsmanship made it happen....Fantastic!!! 8)
So, hello! Hope all of you don't mind another fan in the stands of Fender?

Cheers!

Hi jasonk931,

I suppose that we can squeeze in one more.

Any idea what you want yet? There are many great guitar models to suit most tastes, including single coil and hum-bucker pups. The newer Am Stds, since 2012, have the Fat 50s pups, while those before 2012 have a different type.

What kind of amp(s) do you use, and what style of music do you play?

There is nothing wrong with being a fan of both Fender and Gibson. My Les Pauls don't have a problem hanging out with my Strats and my Telecaster.

That's what I think. I'll always be a lover of LP's, and the wall will only blossom with more tonal options. I'm looking for a fat pups, but not humbuckers as I have plenty of those. I love Kenny Wayne Shepherds sound lately, and I play a lot of rock, blues, but also soft smooth ambient. I will probably begin with a mid-level cost wise, and then once my hands have found their flow, I'll upgrade. Concerning color, I'm currently in awe of SUNSET METALLIC.

I had a 52 reissue Tele for years, but it never got play time, except in the studio. It roared in the tracks. Sold her to make room for a 59 LP.

This model might interest you. The price shown is not what you will pay at a retail store, usually multiply the price shown by 0.7 to get close to the actual cost new.

As a friend of mine puts it, "Welcome to the Collective!".

You'll find the Strat will have a different feel and on occasion, you may lose your place on the fretboard in your transition.

Any pics of what you want or bought?

I'm actually looking heavily at the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Black Strat due to the graph tech saddles and a fingerboard radius similar to my Les Pauls. If it can sound like what I hear from His playing, I'm all in! lol.

Welcome to the Forum! Well, I tend to bounce back and forth between my Strats and some old Gibsons (Like the Les Paul and the 335 a lot). But when the day comes to an ends, I usually have a Strat in hand. Love the sweet tones of the single in the neck and then positions 2 & 4 of course! :D

Just yesterday, I was a bit frustrated with my Paul's as the string height is always different from the 1st to the 12th. When you try to get a perfect level, it's always a compromise somewhere. Not bashing my LP's here, but I play mostly up the neck around the 12th.
So, my buddy brings over his Ash Strat Deluxe. BOOOM! What's this I see before me???? An even string height all the way across the board! I don't even own a strat yet, and my mouth is watering, my lips are parched, and my body tells me I must drink deeply from the Fender wells soon or I shall die!
Ok, so that's a tad dramatic, but you get my drift guys! lol...

We all feel that way about fender... Of course there are times I wish I had a Les Paul though...

OH OH.

I suggested, on another thread in a similar vein, that you contact each other via the Forum's PM if that kind of information is to be shared.
