hello,

how can I tell if the guitar is not fake???
if they even make fake ones im not sure.

it comes with the case and all, and look like an original.
is there a way to tell maybe numbers or any??

Get the serial number and contact Fender Customer Service. Only way to know.

Also John Mayer sig strats are not drilled for a backplate. so If it has holes back there it is either modified or not real.

You should make sure to see pictures of underside of pickguard to see if its real JM initialed pickups, this would be a concern for me....be careful.

As far as I know the main identifying features of the JM strat are

3 colours it's been produced in: Sunburst (with tortise shell pickguard), White and Mica Cypress (the limited Mica has non standard volume and control knobs)

They always have a rosewood fretboard

The backplate is not supplied and there are no drill holes in any model (as mentioned above)

The backplate is fully shielded and the pickups should have the following hand written on them JM NK (neck pickup), JM MD (middle pickup) & JM BR (bridge pickup)

The truss rod adjustment hole is at the base of the neck - which I imagine is a giant pain the $@!. (so if you see a truss rod hole on the head stock chances are it's a fake.)
