I know it's a long shot but I would like help identifying this guitar. My fiance sold it a few years ago and I'd like to replace it for a wedding gift. All I know about it is this: 1995 Fender Stratocaster, lefty. He loved it and has regretted selling it since. Thanks!

Miranda,
That is a Fender Telecaster, not a Stratocaster. Maybe try to get some more details from him about the exact model, etc. Sounds like a nice present.

Yep, definitely a Telecaster with maple fretboard.

Pretty sure it's not a US Standard, at least - truss rod adjustment looks like it's at the body end rather than the headstock.

Hi Miranda: it's a noble project and we want to help.

Guys, am I seeing it right, is that a walnut plug on the end of the trussrod? And I'm not quite sure if there is a hole in that plug or not. If there is a hole then it is simply an American Standard Telecaster, and the current version of that guitar is this:

http://www.fender.com/en-GB/guitars/tel ... ard-black/

However, it looks like it might be a solid trussrod plug, and if so it is a choice between the current American Vintage '58 Telecaster (not available in black at the moment):

http://www.fender.com/en-GB/guitars/tel ... elecaster/

- or the Classic Series '50s Tele, here:

http://www.fender.com/en-GB/guitars/tel ... ard-black/

I don't remember what the equivalent models to those were in 1995, but these are as close as I believe we can get in the current catalog.

Miranda: you could try subtly asking your husband if his guitar was a standard model at the time or a "reissue" of an older model. The answer to that will tell you which of the above to go for. If it's a reissue then you have a choice of the latter two at different price points, each of which is an excellent guitar.

Either way, you are looking for a Fender Telecaster in black, with a maple fingerboard; if you want to get reasonably close to the guitar your husband used to have. Go into a shop with that information and they should be able to help you.

By the way, don't be put off by the prices mentioned on those pages. They are Manufacturer's Recommended Retail Prices: what you will pay in a shop or online will be substantially less.

Nice wife! :D

Good luck - C

PS: since I started typing I see that Vulpinity reckons it for a solid trussrod plug. That narrows it down to either of the Reissue models.

Ha - you are so welcome! :D

Do us one little favour: come the day, please post us a nice photo of your husband-to-be's happy face when he first grips his new guitar!

And congrats and best wishes for your forthcoming wedding. 8)

Cheers - C

You wouldn't want it anyway... It's a factory defect guitar better known as a lefty...

I'm not so sure. In the top pic it looks to me like there might be a hole in that plug.
Also, those tuning machines look more like Schallers to me than Klusons.
Hard to say with a small grainy pic, though.
Could be either.

Either way, her guy's gonna have a wonderful present.

How come I never get to meet girls like that?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
