Could be it's going sharp because the neck needs a truss rod adjustment.

Not to interupt, but just to return to the OP for a moment...

So the question is, what is normal lifetime of American Deluxe tremolo?

Hello Perviy11, welcome to the Forum.

I remember reading in a guitar magazine that back in the '80s Eddie Van Halen used to change his entire Floyd bridge, posts and all, every three weeks, due to wear. Good grief! On the other hand, my oldest two-point Fender bridge is probably about 15 years and is showing no signs whatsoever of needing replacing. (I am definitely no EVH.)

So it entirely depends on how hard you work that whammy. No rules.

You can of course buy replacement pivot posts when the time comes and you'd find that a cheaper alternative to replacing the entire bridge, while there's still life in those knife edges. They don't have to be sushi-chef sharp to do their job.

What is the blade runner??? (Beside an old Harrison Ford movie)

It's a great old Harrison Ford movie. Especially in the final director's cut. :D

It's also this:

Which takes us back to the discussion...

Back to the original question. Yes they do wear out. Basically anything with friction points will eventually wear out. It took my original 72 Strat trem about 30 years of pretty abusive stuff to get to the point where I couldn't keep the guitar in tune whenever I used it. I took the bar off and just played the guitar without it. Then the saddle height adjustment screws and the threads they went into corroded from 40 years of sweat and the screws became pointed and sharp. I think it only lasted that long because I kept it lubricated with graphite. Now It's Big Bends Nut Sauce. So instead of replacing it with another Fender trem unit, I went with the Blade Runner. I kept the original in a plastic bag. There were no modifications needed.

Yeah I found it amazing as I have owned umpteen strats and my current 89 with its original 2 point tremolo works great after 24 years. I have never seen a Fender or Floyd rose need replacing. especially in that short of time. I am from the show me state so you would to show me this.

Haha - well maybe I'll try and dig out the interview from an old Guitarist magazine and see exactly what was said. I think it was when Fender brought out their replica of the Frankenstrat - if it's a myth it's one put about by Edward himself...
