I recently bought a brandnew MiM Stratocaster HSS .
Great sound! Great feel! I love it!
After 2 months I noticed there still was protective foil on the pickguard, which was curling up at one corner, and I could peel it off.
However, the foil was still under the screws as well as under the knobs on the pickguard.

Is it safe to remove it ?

I have a MIM tele, and I had the same thing. I don't know much about geetarz, but I think that's pretty standard.

If the plastic cover is like tangled and twisted in your controls then maybe there's an issue, but the plastic foil on mine was also under the screws, etc. It wasn't however like stuck under anything. It peeled off fairly nicely, I think I had to pick it from a few little places though.

My model was a floor model and I think they put that foil on so it can be used and tried without the pickguard being scratched. Then when it comes time to sell it, you can just peel off the plastic and it looks relatively new again.

Correct me if I'm wrong :P

Cheers

That is a protective plastic film, not foil. It is intended to protect the pickguard right up till the new owner gets it. People typically don't like buying new guitars with hundreds of pick marks and this is a carryover from the days when a guitar went to a shop where people demo'ed instruments. Typically, well at least historically, this is removed by the dealer during post sale prep and setup. It is sort of like the plastic covers on the seats of new cars that are removed during pre-delivery prep by the dealership. Nobody wants to buy a new car where someone else passed gas into the upholstery. Well most people don't anyway.

When you buy online or from a big-box store with no "dealer prep" or post-sale setup the plastic is left on just like it came from the factory. This is no big deal. Remove the knobs and pull it all off.

They all have it. I wait until the first string change and then I pull the pick gaurd off and finish the job. If the plastic is staying on, I'll leave it for the next string change. I like seeing how the work underneth was carried out and if I don't like it, I redo it. It's my thing I guess!

You just can't make some people happy. If the OP's guitar arrived with scratches he'd be posting here to gripe about that.

Just peel it off Geluidsdrager, it's not hard to do.

Your second post should be an apology to Fender and the workers that built your guitar.

Yes this is normal and this is the way Fenders and frankly just about any guitar with a pickguard is.

I will say that some other manufacturers - EBMM specfically - have figured out that the film doesn't have to go all the way to holes for the volume/tone pots so you can peel their film off without it getting stuck under the knobs. Of course some of it still sticks by the screws.

I've just never really gave it any thought, just didn't think the plastic was a big deal.

Cool! Thanks everyone for your prompt replies.
And ofcourse my sincere apologies  to all the crafstmen there at the Fender plant in Mexico!
Like I already said, I love the guitar, I just was rather surprised when it came off.
Ofcourse I peeled it off already, which gave some kind of satisfying relief, the same that I have when peeling off skin in the summer

Um, this thread is crazy...

The plastic is to protect the pickguard when it's shipped, installed, shipped again on a assembled guitar, and hanging on display wall to prevent kids tearing it up before someone buys it. The same stuff is found on iPods and cell phones when you first buy them. It's only temporary protective film.

+1

The trem cover will likewise have the same film applied (remove as with the pickguard).

Seems like whenever I buy a used guitar there are pieces of film caught under the screws due to the previous owner just pulling off the covering. Loosen the screw and pull out the remaining film with a tweezer. Things don't get much simpler.
